NEW YORK, Dec. 20, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- At a time of the year when most kids are thinking about the holidays as a time for receiving presents and making wish lists, Ray Mohler Jr. is thinking about how many presents he can give away and how many wishes he can grant. In fact, Ray is always thinking about these things.
As a small child, Ray, whose birthday is Christmas Eve, ended up in the hospital with a rare hip disease.
When he was released, Ray, 4-years-old, decided to donate his own Christmas and birthday toys to the kids he left behind, "because hospitals can be a scary place," he told his parents.
Ray began collecting toys to give to the children still at the hospital. By age 5, Ray, with his parents, founded a nonprofit organization based in New York called The Little Saint Nick Foundation.
Ray gives holiday cheer every day through their programs like Give-Away Socials at hospitals, held at St.Mary's of New York and Mercy Children's in St. Louis, Missouri. The Grant-a-Wish Program has included a $20,000.00 remodel and created a successful program called the Emergency Room Gift Bag Program. They have given away over 500,000 gift bags across the country so far.
Ray has a mission to provide emergency room gift bags for every child that comes through an emergency room across the country.
Ray is having a Give-Away Social at St.Mary's Children's Hospital, in Bayside, NY, on 28th December from 2.30-4.00pm
Ray is empowering other kids to do the same around America speaking to students and to groups.
Formerly of Lynbrook High School in New York, currently attending the University of Tampa, Ray recently spoke at Lynbrook Middle School and to 120 volunteers in St. Louis, Missouri working with Agha Haider, 13-years-old, featured on Fox2NowSt.Louis.
When asked what he has learned Ray said, "Everyone has the ability to make a difference in this world no matter how old you are."
The Little Saint Nick Foundation helps children cope with their pain, fear and isolation during hospital stays, through entertainment, education and activities. Please visit LittleStNick.org to learn how you can help.
