Local Travel Agents Say Colorado Springs Needs Nonstop to Las Vegas

Apr 02, 2001, 01:00 ET from Worry-Free Vacations

MINNETONKA, Minn., April 2 /PRNewswire/ -- Colorado Springs area residents
have hit the jackpot to Las Vegas according to local travel agents there. On
June 1, Worry-Free Vacations will operate its first nonstop to Las Vegas from
the new Colorado Springs Airport and the first flight is selling well even two
 months before departure.
On March 20th approximately 110 Colorado Springs area travel agency
agents, managers, and owners attended a Worry-Free Vacations overview of the
tour operators' Las Vegas vacation packages. Guests left the event, which was
sponsored by the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority, with a free trip
to Las Vegas so they could sample what most agents believe they'll have no
 trouble selling.
In the storefront window of Faricy's Cruise & Vacation Store in Pueblo
there is a colorful Las Vegas slot machine and the words nonstop service. "It
has attracted a lot of attention," said Katie Faricy, the agency's owner and
manager. "I keep telling everybody that we've got to keep the flights full so
we can keep the service here."
"Any nonstop service we can get out of Colorado Springs is very welcome.
Interest in Las Vegas is huge," said Anita Cowan, manager of Sunrise Travel in
Colorado Springs. "And it is not just gaming that attracts folks. Las Vegas
is family, fun, great shows and shopping."
Worry-Free Vacations offers a choice of 32 hotels in Las Vegas: 26 hotels
on the famed Las Vegas Strip, five hotels in downtown Las Vegas, one in the
Summerlin Resort Area, and three in Laughlin, Nev. Nonstop service is via
Champion Air with Friday and Monday departures June 1 - August 31, 2001, and
Thursday and Sunday departures June 3 - December 30, 3001.
Joe Kaapana, manager of AAA Colorado Springs Travel says all of his agents
are very excited. "Not only is it the first nonstop service to Las Vegas
we've had since American Airlines pulled out a year ago, but our travel
counselors can sell a Worry-Free Vacations hotel stay to clients planning a
 driving vacation."
