Lt. General (Ret.) Ricardo 'Ric' Sanchez, Former Commander of Multinational Forces-Iraq, Newly Elected Chairman of Veterans Across America, to Host Washington, D.C. Conference
NEW YORK, Feb. 24 /PRNewswire/ -- Veterans Across America (VAA), a nonprofit that helps veterans get jobs and start businesses, proudly announces that LTG Ricardo "Ric" Sanchez, former Commander of Multinational Forces-Iraq, has been elected as Chairman of the Board of VAA -- and will host the organization's upcoming conference in Washington, D.C., "Champion Mentoring: The Bridge to Post-Service Success," Thursday, June 17, 2010.
General Sanchez, who led all Coalition forces during the period when Saddam Hussein was captured, said, "Having led America's young men and women during five years of wartime service, I am now helping veterans and their families fight a new battle on the home front as they struggle to transition to civilian life." He added, "I have personally experienced the effectiveness of VAA's work and the passion and commitment of their volunteer Champion Mentors, and I'm proud to be spearheading their efforts."
Dr. Ray Healey, Executive Director and co-founder of VAA, said, "Our veterans are thrilled that a distinguished warrior and advocate of Ric Sanchez's caliber is now leading the fight on behalf of veterans. As a battlefield commander, he has seen our military men and women display the vital traits -- leadership, courage, intelligence, discipline, teamwork, 'grace under pressure' -- that make them so valuable to our country in wartime, and so attractive to American business when they finish serving our country."
Wes Poriotis, co-founder of VAA and a longtime champion of veterans, said, "We've been battling for veterans in the private sector war zone for years, and have launched key initiatives, such as our 'Champion Mentors' program, and our 'Family Delta Force' teams. Gen. Sanchez has a heartfelt commitment to the welfare of our veterans which, combined with his steely determination and his dedication to the mission of helping veterans thrive, makes him a priceless ally of Veterans Across America."
VAA's Champion Mentors program matches top business executives and business owners, one-on-one, with veterans needing employment or seeking to start businesses. VAA's Family Delta Force teams make special visits to the homes of veterans in great need -- because of severe physical injuries and/or serious mental health issues like Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI).
VAA's next conference -- "Champion Mentoring: The Bridge to Post-Service Success" -- will be held in House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's Caucus Room in the Cannon Office Building in Washington, D.C., Thursday, June 17, 2010.
