Lubbock Book Brings Feist Publications Top Honor

Apr 11, 2001, 01:00 ET from Feist Publications, Inc.

LUBBOCK, Texas, April 11 /PRNewswire/ -- Feist Publications, Inc. took
home four Gold Book Awards at the Association of Directory Publishers' Annual
Convention held recently in New Orleans. Feist won recognition for the best
overall telephone directory (first place in the category Directories --
Circulation 80,000 and Over) for the Feist Lubbock/South Plains Area-Wide
Telephone Directory. Feist also placed first in the category Covers --
Product Branding; took third place in the category Innovative Product; and
third place in the category Directory Enhancements for "attaining the highest
degree of excellence and achievement" in each of these categories.
Feist chose to enter the Lubbock/South Plains Area-Wide Telephone
Directory in the directory category because it best represented the company's
large-market books. Features like Talking Pages, Community Pages, Internet
Pages, easy-to-read business listings, maps and map locators, colorful yellow
pages, more than 200 coupon pages, color web listings and online yellow pages
differentiated this book from the field of competitors from across the
country. Contributing to the book's success was also its high dollars per
book circulated (revenue/circulation) ratio. This is the second year in a row
that Feist has won this category.
In the cover category, where Feist also placed first, its entry included
covers from its Lubbock/South Plains, Northeast Kansas and Central Kansas
directories. Each of these covers demonstrated the overarching theme of
"community" with engaging pictures of children playing near local landmarks.
Feist was also recognized in the Innovative Product category for its new
web features. All Feist directories offer Internet Pages with a variety of
consumer-oriented web sites. Feist also encourages advertisers to include
their web page and e-mail addresses in their yellow-page listings and ads at
no cost. These addresses are printed in blue to call attention to them.
And finally, Feist received third place in the category of Directory
Enhancements for its "Point of Information" section in its North Central
Kansas directory. This section provides consumers with contacts throughout
the community that can help address a variety of needs -- from childcare to
 housing.
"It is always rewarding to receive a Gold Book Award," said Tom Feist,
president, "But, it was especially gratifying to see the Lubbock book receive
the top honor for the second year in a row."
The Association of Directory Publishers, an international trade
association, was founded in 1898 to promote the highest standards of quality
and service in directory publishing. Its membership today includes more than
170 directory publishers, making it the largest organization representing
 directory publishers in existence.
More than 24 years ago, Tom and Roberta Feist started Feist Publications,
Inc. With the help of their six children, they have made Feist one of the
most successful independent telephone directory publishers in the nation. The
company currently distributes 3 million directories in 18 markets throughout
Kansas, the western half of Oklahoma and four areas in northern Texas -- with
a new book coming this summer to Kansas City. Feist Publications is
headquartered in Wichita, Kan.; production and accounting is handled in its
Spearville, Kan. office; and it has sales offices in Lubbock, Texas; Oklahoma
 City; and Kansas City.
