Apr 17, 2001, 01:00 ET from Lucent Technologies

MURRAY HILL, N.J., April 17 /PRNewswire/ -- Lucent Technologies (NYSE: LU)
today announced its VitalSuite(TM) SP network, application and business
performance management software has won the Product of the Year Award from
Network Magazine, CMP Media's monthly publication for network managers, for
having the best-in-class "Systems and Desktop Management" solution.
The 14th annual Product of the Year Awards recognize 34 products from
thousands of new products that were introduced in 2000 and the editors choose
a select few that "stand out from the rest." Additionally, in the category
for the best "Outsourced Network Management" service, Lucent Technologies
Worldwide Services (LWS) was selected for its Remote Network Management
Services (RNMS), also announced today in a separate news release.
Lucent's VitalSoft division continues its award-winning tradition with the
addition of VitalSuite SP along side the award-winning VitalSuite Enterprise
and VitalQIP(TM) products. Announced in September 2000, VitalSuite SP was the
first performance management system to scale from an enterprise solution to
support complex service provider networks. VitalSuite SP helps service
providers verify that they are delivering high-quality transport, service and
application performance to their enterprise customers. It scales to support
 millions of users and resources.
"We are extremely pleased with this award and the recognition from
Network Magazine for our product innovation and the value it represents to the
magazine's readers," said Elvin Ambler, general manager of VitalSoft,
Lucent Technologies Worldwide Services' division that produces VitalSuite SP,
VitalSuite Enterprise and VitalQIP. "This award signifies that the VitalSuite
family is best-in-class-again-and has now won awards for both its enterprise
 and service provider versions."
One of the longest running product recognition programs of its kind,
Network Magazine's Product of the Year Awards are presented annually to those
products that, according to Editor-in-Chief, Steve Steinke, "are most
significant to the Network Magazine reader population. Our editors reach a
consensus on the importance of the pros and cons of the contending products to
the reader community." The Product of the Year Awards cover products and
services across both enterprise and the new public network.
The criteria used to judge Products of the Year candidates include the
broad appeal of the product to the publication's reader base; competitive
enhancements that the product offers; price/performance advantages; technical
ingenuity; new features and applications; and serviceability to the market.
The Products of the Year selection process takes over three months to
 complete.
"The Product of the Year Awards provide network managers with key product
information and technology trends they need to grow their business and
organizations. Our editors research the intersection of the enterprise and
the new public network to determine products and categories that matter most
 to readers," Steinke said.
All Product of the Year award winners will be featured in the May issue of
Network Magazine, which is circulated to 200,000 network professionals.
Special awards recognizing this year's winners will be presented
Wednesday, May 9th during NetWorld+Interop Spring 2001, at a reception at the
 Bellagio Hotel in Las Vegas.
