Lydall Thermal/Acoustical Group and BGF Industries, Inc. Create Strategic Alliance and Enter into Representation and Distribution Agreement

Apr 18, 2001, 01:00 ET from Lydall, Inc.

MANCHESTER, Conn., April 18 /PRNewswire/ -- Lydall, Inc. (NYSE: LDL),
today announced that the Lydall Thermal/Acoustical Group has signed a
Representation and Distribution Agreement with BGF Industries, Inc. for the
exclusive representation of BGF products for thermal applications in the
 Appliance Market.
The agreement, which is reflective of Lydall's strategic focus on its two
core businesses, filtration/separation and thermal/acoustical, will enhance
the company's ability to be a complete thermal insulation solutions provider.
Under the terms of the agreement, Lydall has been granted an exclusive, long-
term right to represent BGF's nonwoven thermal insulation products, including
 TechMat(R), BGF(TM)Mat2, Basalt Mat(TM), Silica Mat(TM) and Metafil(R) Mat, as
well as any new products or solutions developed and marketable in the
 appliance industry.
William Luerman, OEM Industrial Thermal Market Manager at Lydall, was
upbeat about the benefits of the BGF alliance. "This is an excellent starting
point. From day one, we'll be able to leverage BGF's knowledge of needled
technology with our expertise in wet-laid technology to provide the appliance
market with an exceptional set of nonwoven thermal solutions. This expanded
offering will strengthen our position as a leading total-system solutions
provider for the appliance industry. Not only will we provide new market
channels for ourselves and BGF but, by combining our products and development
capabilities, together we'll be uniquely positioned to engineer the
specialized thermal solutions that will meet the future challenges of the
 appliance industry."
John Forsythe, BGF's Market Manager, was equally pleased with the
announcement. "This is more than the typical channel marketing agreement.
During our discussions it became clear that Lydall would be the ideal partner
for us. They've long been established in the appliance industry and have a
reputation for excellence in quality, service and, most importantly, product
development. That's where we foresee the greatest reward from this
partnership, not just from increased sales of current products, which will of
course be significant, but from new product development initiatives between
 our two companies."
John Tattersall, Group Vice President and General Manager -- Industrial
Thermal at Lydall, and Jim Hendersen, General Manager of Thermal Insulation
Products at BGF, issued a joint statement expressing pleasure with the new
business relationship. "Bill Luerman and John Forsythe are to be commended
for their efforts to bring Lydall and BGF together on this initiative," they
said. "Early on, Bill and John recognized the synergies that this alliance
offered, and together they presented a compelling vision of what it could mean
to both companies. The cooperative relationship that they have established
bodes well for the prospects of our companies and our customers. We look
forward to working together on this and other projects in the future."
BGF is the American Glass Division of the Porcher Textile Group of
Badinieres, France, which has annual sales of over $650 million and maintains
manufacturing facilities in France, the United Kingdom, the USA, China, and
Brazil. Satellite sales offices are located in Italy, Germany, the United
Kingdom, Hong Kong, Australia, Russia, and the Czech Republic.
Lydall, Inc. is a New York Stock Exchange listed company (LDL - news),
headquartered in Manchester, Connecticut. The Company, with 9 operations in
the U.S., one in France, one in Germany, and offices in Japan, focuses on
specialty engineered products for the thermal/acoustical and
 filtration/separation markets.
