SAN FRANCISCO, May 5, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Manatt, Phelps & Phillips, LLP, announced today that Jennifer Gorovitz has joined the firm's Family Wealth Transfer Planning and Trust & Estate Administration practice as counsel in its San Francisco office. She was previously chief executive officer of the Jewish Community Federation of San Francisco, the Peninsula, and Marin and Sonoma counties, a prominent position within the Bay Area and among philanthropic communities nationally.

For nearly 10 years, Gorovitz served the JCF in a number of senior roles and received the distinction of being the first female CEO among the 20 largest federations in North America. Prior to becoming CEO, she served as acting chief executive officer, chief of staff, and director of funds and foundations for the Jewish Community Endowment Fund. During her tenure as CEO, Gorovitz led the $1.5 billion, 104-year-old charity, composed of annual fundraising/grant-making, endowments and donor-involved vehicles, to a new level of significance among the groups it serves and in its community outreach.

"We could not be more thrilled that Jennifer has chosen Manatt for the next phase of her career," said Jill S. Dodd, chair of the firm's Family Wealth Transfer Planning and Trust & Estate Administration practice. "She is a powerful force in the Bay Area's philanthropic community and has accomplished much at the helm of the Jewish Community Federation, an organization that does such important work. Her business savvy, strategic vision and ability to work with people with complex needs will be of great benefit to our clients, which include families, individuals and charitable organizations."

Gorovitz has extensive experience counseling charitable organizations and individuals on philanthropy and exempt organization law, as well as familiarity with sophisticated estate planning techniques. She has handled litigation and transactional work specific to gift planning, formations, governance and charitable planning. As one of the more visible leaders in the Bay Area, Gorovitz is well-known for her integrity and strategic skills as well as the innovative solutions she brings to the rapidly changing philanthropic environment.

"Manatt is known as a leader in the philanthropic community and among high net worth individuals in need of sophisticated gift and estate planning, so becoming a member of this team is a unique and exciting opportunity for me and my network of professional advisors," Gorovitz said. "The firm's accomplished Family Wealth Transfer Planning and Trust & Estate Administration practice provides a strong platform for my work with individuals in gift and estate planning as well as with exempt organizations. I look forward to working alongside my talented new colleagues."

Gorovitz was included in The Jewish Daily Forward's "Forward 50" 2010 list of the top 50 men and women whose "religious and cultural values propelled them to engage, serve, lead, entertain, educate, create, advocate and exasperate in a decidedly Jewish voice." She was also selected as one of the Bay Area's most influential women by the San Francisco Business Times in 2012.
