March of Dimes: 6,500 Heroes Will Gather to Fight Birth Defects

Apr 11, 2001, 01:00 ET from March of Dimes

MINNEAPOLIS/ST. PAUL, Minn., April 11 /PRNewswire/ -- On Sunday, April
29th, 6,500 heroes will participate in March of Dimes WalkAmerica, the walk
that saves babies, at three Twin Cities locations -- Minneapolis, Stillwater
and Wonderwalk at Loring Park in Minneapolis.
March of Dimes WalkAmerica is the first and best walking event in the
country. WalkAmerica has been saving babies for more than 30 years and helps
raise funds for the March of Dimes that support research and programs to give
all babies a fighting chance at life.
"This year's walk is sure to bring us closer to our goal -- the day when
every baby is born healthy," stated Natalie Dale Johnson, CEO of Dynamic
Information Systems and Chair of the 2001 WalkAmerica Committee. She
continued, "WalkAmerica is the easiest way for companies and individuals to
show support for the March of Dimes, an organization that has touched the
 lives of everyone."
This year the focus of March of Dimes WalkAmerica is prematurity
prevention. Each year, 450,000 babies are born prematurely, and must struggle
just to survive. Each year, nearly one million people in 1,400 communities
nationwide help these tiny babies win their fight by joining WalkAmerica.
When you participate in March of Dimes WalkAmerica, you are supporting
lifesaving research and innovative prevention programs that find ways to
prevent prematurity and birth defects that will benefit babies here in
 Minnesota.
The March of Dimes is a national voluntary health agency whose mission is
to improve the health of babies by preventing birth defects and infant
mortality. Founded in 1938 by Franklin D. Roosevelt, the March of Dimes funds
programs of research, community services, education and advocacy to save
babies. If you would like to be a hero, like many others in your community,
and join WalkAmerica and the fight to save babies, please contact Stacy
