The five-story building commissioned by Mariner will provide a flexible workspace equipped with modern amenities for up to 300 employees, accommodating current needs and future growth.
With a continued and aggressive expansion plan, Mariner's employee count doubled in the past three years to 724, causing it to outgrow its previous headquarters in Leawood, Kan., which will continue to house Mariner Wealth Advisors, the fast-growing national wealth advisory firm. Its new location provides a more innovative space that can grow with the company, foster a collaborative culture, and allow for quick and economical transitions in the future.

Renowned architectural firm Hoefer Wysocki completed the base design for the new space, which uses award-winning, environmentally conscious design products and natural materials such as stone, wood and glass to allow for natural lighting. It also features fewer offices in favor of a more communal environment, which is something unique in the financial services industry. In support of collaboration, the office introduces an advanced training space with a retractable glass wall that can hold up to 200 employees, and each department has their own team rooms for meetings. Easily moveable and configurable walls, installed by DIRTT Environmental Solutions, are found throughout the office. To promote further interaction and creativity among employees, the new office has a rooftop deck, an outdoor courtyard and an outdoor waterfall.
Mariner conducted an employee survey to help inform its design plan, and organized employees into committees to own certain aspects of the move, allowing everyone to be involved in the design. Employee feedback led the firm to combine traditional and modern facets in the new office, including a coffee bar, a larger employee break area, digital broadcast capabilities, individual height adjustable desks and communal treadmill desks, and a passive fiber-optic network enabling a sustainable technology infrastructure. Additionally, Mariner asked for employees to contribute their own, original pieces of artwork, which are now displayed throughout the new office.
Mariner's expansion will accommodate the growing team, support the increasing number of clients served and continue to span resources to a larger audience. The firm recently opened offices in Plano, Texas, Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., St. Louis, Mo., and Chicago, Ill. giving it 17 locations across the United States.
