FT. LAUDERDALE, Fla. and NEW YORK, Nov. 25, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- The Law Firm of Mark A. Tepper P.A. is urging investors to seek recovery and challenge losses from investments in the bankrupt real estate investment firm, Diversified Business Services & Investments Inc. (DBSI).
These investments include non-traded real estate funds, tenant-in-common investments and various notes purchased through securities broker-dealers across the country, representing DBSI Housing Inc.
According to Regulators, DBSI Housing, Inc., offered notes, equity interests and tenant-in-common investments that were often guaranteed by entities that allegedly had little or no capacity to honor the commitments. Instead, Regulators charged, many of the investments were burdened by commissions and fees of up to thirty percent of the proceeds raised in the offering, leaving little chance that investors would earn a market return. Four DBSI executives were reportedly indicted on 83 counts of fraud, wire fraud, mail fraud and other charges in April, 2013.
Investors have also initiated actions against firms like Investment Properties of America, the IMH Secured Loan Fund and DBSI Housing, Inc.
"Federal securities law and industry regulation requires broker-dealers to conduct due diligence investigations to determine whether the sponsor's representations are true while analyzing the business prospects of the sponsor and the investments it offers. These failures have led to successful litigation against at least one broker-dealer and the settlement of at least a dozen cases with firms that sold DBSI products. Many other cases are pending," Mr. Tepper, the former Chief Trial Counsel at the New York Attorney General's Bureau of Investor Protection and Securities said.
