MassMutual Promotes Seven Executives

    SPRINGFIELD, Mass., April 12 /PRNewswire/ -- The MassMutual Financial
 Group today announced the promotions of seven executive officers.
     Commenting on the changes, Robert J. O'Connell, Chairman, President and
 Chief Executive Officer of the Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance Company
 (MassMutual), stated: "These are talented executives and proven leaders, and
 the new titles reflect their significant and expanding responsibilities.  They
 are part of an exceptional management team that has taken our company to
 unprecedented levels of growth, as evidenced by a 46 percent increase in net
 gain from operations, to $650 million, in 2000.  I am confident they will
 continue to be major contributors to our future success."
     Elected by MassMutual's Board of Directors to Executive Vice President
 were four former Senior Vice Presidents.
 
     * Susan A. Alfano is responsible for the Corporate Human Resources and
       benefits functions.  She also assumes new responsibilities for Corporate
       Communications, Corporate Services and Connecticut/Massachusetts
       Government Relations functions.  Ms. Alfano resides in East Longmeadow,
       Mass.
 
     * Frederick C. Castellani leads MassMutual's Retirement Services business
       and is also responsible for the Persumma Financial company located in
       Newton, Mass.  He lives in Simsbury, Conn.
 
     * Howard E. Gunton, Chief Financial Officer, also has responsibility for
       the company's Financial Products Division, which provides institutional
       investment and terminal funding contracts.  Mr. Gunton is a resident of
       Hampden, Mass.
 
     * Matthew E. Winter is in charge of MassMutual's Life Insurance,
       Disability Income Insurance, Long Term Care Insurance, and Distribution
       operations.  He resides in West Hartford, Conn.
 
     Elected Senior Vice President was Beverly A. Holmes, TPA Alliance
 Business, Retirement Services.  A resident of Springfield, she was formerly a
 Vice President.
     Promoted to executive officers were Rodney Dillman, who is responsible for
 Real Estate Law, and Gregory Woodworth, who manages MassMutual's Litigation
 activities.  Both are Vice President and Associate General Counsels in the
 company's Law Division.  Mr. Dillman lives in Suffield, Conn., and Mr.
 Woodworth resides in Amherst, Mass.
