McMurdy Named to Executive Position

 Commonwealth Financial Corporation (NYSE:   FCF) President and Chief Executive
 Officer, Joseph E. O'Dell, announced that Sue McMurdy has been named to the
 position of Senior Vice President and Chief Information Officer of the
 Corporation.
     Mr. O'Dell commented, "Technology continues to play an increasingly
 important role in our future.  It is in recognition of this important role
 that Sue was named to this position."
     In addition to her position as Senior Vice President and Chief Information
 Officer for First Commonwealth, Sue is the President and Chief Executive

 performance of technology and operational goals for First Commonwealth and its
 affiliates.  Originally from Pulaski, NY, Sue started with the corporation in
 1978 after receiving her B.A. in Mathematics from Indiana University of
 Pennsylvania.  Her most recent role was Executive Vice President where she was
 responsible for the technology units of the corporation.  Sue lives in Indiana
 with her husband, John, Jr.  They have a son, John III, who attends the
 University of Rochester.  Sue is active as a member of St. Bernard of
 Clairvaux Church and the Indiana Country Club and has also served as the Past
 President of the Pennsylvania State Golf Association.  Professionally, she is
 a member of the MAC Network Advisory Council.
