MINNEAPOLIS, April 5 /PRNewswire/ -- Medica has announced the launch of
The Way to Better Health(TM), a multi-million program designed to encourage
healthy behaviors among its State Public Programs members.*
"The development of The Way to Better Health is an important step in
supporting our members' health needs," says Glenn Andis, vice president of
State Public Programs for Medica. "As a health plan, we can influence better
health outcomes by encouraging members to participate and providers to support
 preventive health practices."
The Way to Better Health provides support to the state's health care
infrastructure and helps to alleviate barriers that hinder members from
engaging in healthy activities. Incentive-based programs encourage members to
receive prenatal care, mammograms, Child and Teen Checkups (C&TC), health
education and dental services. Eligible members can receive complimentary
recreational helmets and child car seats along with instruction on proper
 installation and use.
Medica's program also supports medical education and research, physician
support and a pilot program focused on case management for members with mental
 health/chemical dependency needs.
Medica is now sharing information about The Way to Better Health with
members and providers. A public-awareness campaign is slated for this summer,
and Medica is distributing information and incentives on a community basis
 through public health agencies.
"Medica has extensive knowledge about the needs and solutions necessary to
improve the health and well being of its members," says Andis. "We've put the
wheels in motion to act on that knowledge."
Information about The Way to Better Health is available by calling
 Medica's customer service at 952-992-2322 or 800-373-8335. Hearing-impaired
members with a TTY may call 952-992-2357 or 800-234-8819.
A division of Minneapolis-based Allina Health System, Medica is a
non-profit organization with a "Commendable" accreditation rating from the
National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA), the most recognized national
evaluator used by purchasers, regulators and consumers to assess health
 maintenance organizations.

     * Most Minnesotans who receive subsidized support for their medical needs
are recipients of Minnesota Health Care Programs -- either Medical Assistance
(MA), General Assistance Medical Care (GAMC) or MinnesotaCare. Medica's State
Public Programs (SPP) provides health care coverage to these groups through
its Medica Choice Care or Medica MinnesotaCare products.
