Metrodome to Upgrade Video and Advertising Display Systems With Daktronics ProStar(R) and ProAd(TM) Technologies

Apr 26, 2001, 01:00 ET from Daktronics, Inc.

BROOKINGS, S.D., April 26 /PRNewswire/ -- Daktronics, Inc. (Nasdaq: DAKT)
of Brookings, S.D., has been announced as the successful bidder on a project
to provide new, large screen, full-color, LED (light emitting diode) video
displays for the Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome in Minneapolis.
The Metropolitan Sports Facilities Commission (MSFC), which oversees the
operation of the facility, made the announcement on April 25, 2001. The value
of the contract will be approximately $2.3 million. Installation of the new
displays is expected to be complete by July 2001.
According to MSFC Executive Director Bill Lester, the new video boards
will be a major stadium upgrade. "This new technology will provide excellent
visibility and viewing angles, so every Metrodome fan will have an excellent
view of replays and other information presented on the scoreboards. In
addition to increased brightness, the new technology offers several other
advantages over existing CRT (cathode ray tube) screens, including reduced
 energy costs and improved reliability."
Daktronics will install a total of four large, full-color, LED (light
emitting diode) displays and the control system to operate them. Inside the
Metrodome, on opposite sides of the playing field, two large ProStar(R)
VideoPlus displays will provide fans with spectacular instant replays, live
video, entertaining animation, graphics and other information. Each of these
displays will measure approximately 20 feet high by 35 feet wide.
Outside the facility, two large full-color ProAd(TM) digital advertising
displays will communicate with motorists and others who pass by the Metrodome.
ProAd(TM) technology also allows for the display of video clips, animation,
graphics and text information. Each of these displays will measure
approximately 10 feet high by 37 feet wide.
The displays will be controlled with Daktronics proven Venus(R) 7000 and
V-Link(R) control systems. Daktronics new Generation V ProStar(R) and
ProAd(TM) displays have the capability to show more than 68 billion colors on
the red, green and blue LED displays.
Daktronics was recently chosen to provide an integrated video, scoring,
information and advertising display system for the new CMGI Field, future home
of the New England Patriots, under construction in Foxboro, Mass. Daktronics
has installed integrated display systems recently at new NFL stadiums in
Cincinnati, Cleveland, Tampa and in Giants Stadium in E. Rutherford, N.J.
