Michigan Announces Awarding of Statewide Adult Training Program Grants, Reports Michigan Department of Career Development

    LANSING, Mich., April 30 /PRNewswire/ -- The State of Michigan today
 announced statewide Workforce Investment Act Adult Training Program Grants
 totaling $21,549,504.  The grants are awarded to the 25 Michigan Works!
 agencies and will be used to provide a variety of career preparation options
 to help people learn about the workplace and acquire both academic and career
 skills that employers want.
     "Here in Michigan, our broad strategic economic and workforce goals are to
 develop a system that produces a workforce with the required skills to
 maintain and enhance the Michigan economy," said Dr. Barbara Bolin, Director
 of the Michigan Department of Career Development.  The Michigan Works! system
 provides services to all employers and all job seekers.  A core set of
 services are available, free of charge, to all who seek them.
     Funding is made available by the federal Workforce Investment Act Adult
 Training Program, administered through the Michigan Department of Career
 Development.
     The Michigan Department of Career Development helps workers find jobs and
 employers recruit and train skilled workers.  To this end, the state's new
 career and training development agency is working with K-12 schools, community
 colleges, and local Workforce Development Boards toward the establishment of a
