Microtest Delivers Enhanced Redundancy, Data Protection And Usability With FileZerver v3.0

Next Generation NAS Appliance Brings Enterprise-Level

Features to Workgroup Market

Apr 17, 2001, 01:00 ET from Microtest, Inc.

    PHOENIX, April 17 /PRNewswire/ -- Microtest(R), Inc (Nasdaq: MTST) -- a
leading manufacturer of easy-to-use network-attached storage operating systems
and appliances, today introduced FileZerver, version 3.0. This new FileZerver
release features multi-protocol file-level security, greater system capacity
to support files as large as two terabytes, remote mirroring capability, and
an 'on-the-box,' interactive LCD display to facilitate system configuration
 and troubleshooting.
A powerful, Linux-based solution, FileZerver can be installed and
configured in less than five minutes without assistance from increasingly
hard-pressed corporate Information Technology departments. Additionally,
FileZerver can support up to 1,000 individual users with no per seat license
charges. Unlike other NAS appliances that are limited to serving small
workgroups, FileZerver is designed to be highly scalable and to provide users
with a long-term solution to the rapidly growing file storage needs of their
workgroup or department -- large or small.
President and Chief Executive Officer, Vincent C. Hren stated, "FileZerver
3.0 responds to our customers' feature requests for improved file security,
faster data processing, and greater convenience. We are committed to the
storage needs of midrange users, and this newest solution answers customers'
 demands."

Key Features of FileZerver 3.0 Include:
     -- Multi-Protocol File-Level Security -- Browser-based support for
Windows NT, NetWare and Macintosh users.
-- Robust RAID Management -- includes configurable RAID 0, RAID 1 and
RAID 5 storage group types; integrated tape backup; and a wide range
of client and network support, including Microsoft Windows Networking,
Novell NetWare, Apple Macintosh and Unix NFS.
-- Dynamic RAID Expansion -- enables the system admin to increase RAID
capacity by plugging new hardware into the system without taking the
system down, or temporarily relocating the stored data.
-- Remote Mirroring -- provides an additional level of data protection.
FileZerver's suite of backup tools now includes the SmartMirror tool,
which greatly increases the backup process speed in a two-way data
         transfer scenario.
-- LCD Keypad Display -- increases overall usability, eases
troubleshooting, and enables an administrator's direct "control at the
         box."
-- Best Scalability in its Class -- can be scaled to nearly a terabyte of
storage on the IDE board, and well over a terabyte of storage on the
         SCSI board.
-- Server Event Notification via SNMP Traps -- expands server event
notification to include the sending of asynchronous messages to a
system running SNMP management software. Previous versions of
FileZerver supported only email notification of server events.
-- NFS v3.0 server -- provides support for Solaris clients and improved
         performance.
-- Upgraded SCSI board -- supports LVD SCSI (Ultra-80).
-- Upgraded IDE board -- supports Ultra-ATA/100 and up to 12 drives.
-- ATX Power Connector -- provides for safer, controlled shutdowns.
-- Two Form Factors -- available as a sled that can be integrated into a
tower, and as a board for 19-inch rack mounting.

Microtest markets FileZerver to original equipment manufacturers (OEMs)
and integrators as a platform for building appliances that best meet their
customers' needs. OEMs and integrators can purchase FileZerver in several
configurations based on varying processor and memory levels, as well as SCSI
 and/or IDE capabilities.
