NEW YORK, April 12 /PRNewswire/ -- The Million Mom March announced today
that it will hold events in 33 states on Mother's Day, May 13th, to promote
sensible gun laws. Mother's Day marks the first anniversary of the Million Mom
March, which last year drew 750,000 mothers and others to the Mall in
Washington, DC, and which has since transformed itself from a one-day event
into a grassroots organization with 230 chapters in formation across the
 nation.
"Last year, we focused the nation's attention on what needed to be done to
keep our children safe from gun violence," said Mary Leigh Blek, President of
the Million Mom March. "This year, we are rolling up our sleeves and getting
down to business. Real change begins at home -- in our cities, in our states,
and in our own backyards. Empowered moms are leading the way, and the events
planned for Mother's Day are as much a celebration as they are a call to
 action."
The events planned by MMM include rallies, marches, blood drives, and
education fairs, among other activities -- all in an effort to raise awareness
and support for common sense gun laws. Rallies in state capitols are scheduled
in Sacramento, CA; Denver, CO; Boston, MA; Lansing, MI; St. Paul, MN; St.
 Louis, MO (May 12); Concord, NH; Raleigh, NC (May 5), Columbus, OH;
Harrisburg, PA; Austin, TX; and Madison, WI.

Among the many events that are scheduled are the following:

     * Sacramento, CA -- a rally and five-hour education fair on the Capital
