NEW YORK, Nov. 14, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Oscar® nominated filmmaker Morgan Spurlock is joining the 2011 Movember campaign to raise vital funds and awareness for men's health, specifically prostate cancer and other cancers that affect men.

Movember, the month formerly known as November, aims to change the face of men's health by creating a global focus on cancers affecting men.  Participation is not only fun, but also simple.  Once registered, men are challenged to start the month clean-shaven and grow a Mo (slang for moustache). The Mo becomes the hairy ribbon for men's health and the guys growing them become a walking billboard for 30 days.  The growth of a new Mo inspires conversations about not often talked about topics - men's health and cancer affecting them.  Women who register are key to the campaign's success.  They act as Mo ambassadors, spreading the word and showing their support for men's health and the moustache. Since Spurlock already sports his trademark moustache, instead of growing one, he has pledged to shave off his Mo at the end of Movember in support of the campaign and has titled his project "Reverse Movember."

"I was so moved by what Movember represented and what these guys have developed in order to raise money and awareness about men's health issues," said Spurlock.  "I wanted to figure out a way to get involved, and since I am filming and could not shave my Mo on November 1st, we created the Reverse Movember.  I am hoping that we can encourage friends and colleagues to register and pledge their support to Movember, and raise more funds and awareness this year."

"When Morgan approached us, we were honored to have him on board," said Adam Garone, CEO of Movember.  "Although Movember is all about starting clean shaven and growing your Mo for the month of November, we had to get creative since Morgan already had a well-known moustache that he kept year-round.  Together we came up with the Reverse Movember concept and, as a Mo Ambassador, Morgan will bring much needed attention to cancers affecting men."

Spurlock will be putting a $5000 bounty on his trademark Mo.  To donate on behalf of Spurlock, go to and register your donation.  The "Mo Off" will happen on Dec. 3
