Mother's Day Personified: Three Sisters Honor Mothers and Women with Business

Apr 18, 2001, 01:00 ET from Spirit in Sisterhood

FORT WAYNE, Ind., April 18 /PRNewswire/ -- A year and a half ago, three
sisters reunited after the death of their mother, Teresa Humphrey, from
Alzheimer's disease. That experience, coupled with the death of a dear friend
from breast cancer, prompted them to form their own business, Spirit in
Sisterhood (SIS), in honor of these women. The Humphrey sisters, Barb, Denise
and Joyce, each had their own lives and careers, but were drawn to the idea of
creating a company and a website that facilitated powerful connections between
women. That site, www.sis-store.com has become more than an online retailer --
it's also a gathering place where women can share their memories and their
 hearts.
In celebration of Mother's Day, SIS will be operating a kiosk at the
Glenbrook Mall, featuring their products and a special gift for all women --
coupons for a reduced price mammogram from Breast Diagnostic Screening Centers
and Fort Wayne Radiology. "Our mission is to be a business that truly gives
back to women and empowers them to live their lives to the fullest," says co-
owner Joyce Oetting of Fort Wayne. "That's the best way we know to honor our
mother, and the other women who have had a powerful impact on our lives," adds
 Denise.

SPECIAL MOTHER'S DAY CONTEST ANNOUNCEMENT: Share Your Favorite Mom Memory!
We invite you to visit www.sis-store.com and click on the "Contact Us" button
to submit your favorite memory of your mother (less than 500 words, submitted
as a text file, no attachments please). The Top Five entries will receive a
SIS picture frame. The best entry will receive a $50 gift certificate to the
SIS Store. "This is a wonderful opportunity for women to tell us about their
mothers," says Barb. "Those stories remind us of why we went into this
 business in the first place."
SIS is dedicated to creating shared experiences, allowing women to
acknowledge that special spirit called sisterhood -- symbolized by loyalty,
friendship, fairness, strength, support, and understanding. The SIS catalog
includes unique gifts that express a woman's spirit for herself and for the
special women in her life. Each item bears the SIS logo, a visual
representation of sisterhood. A portion of the proceeds from the sale of SIS
gift items is donated to Breast Cancer Research and Alzheimer's Research.
