Motorola Teams With Everypath to Wirelessly Survey Developers

Wireless J2ME Application Helps Motorola Improve Developer Support Program

Apr 11, 2001, 01:00 ET from Motorola, Inc.

SCHAUMBURG, Ill. and SAN JOSE, Calif., April 11 /PRNewswire/ -- Motorola
(NYSE: MOT) today announced a relationship with Everypath, Inc., a mobile
software platform and services provider, that calls for Everypath to develop
an application that enables Motorola to survey developers by using Motorola's
new Java technology-enabled mobile phones. The information collected is used
by Motorola to continuously improve its comprehensive developer support
 program.
This application will run on the Motorola i85s and i50sx' handsets, the
 first Java(TM) 2 Platform, Micro Edition (J2ME(TM)) technology-enabled
wireless phones in North America. These handsets support 'always on' Internet
access using IP packet data connectivity.
This networked application from Everypath, first tested during the
O'Reilly Developer Conference in March, will be used at developer-related
events. Motorola will provide these new handsets to developers to complete
and submit the surveys. Motorola will use this meaningful feedback to enhance
its developer support program, which has approximately 10,000 registered
 members.
"Motorola values the opinions of J2ME developers, who are experts in
application development, and know best what they need to succeed," said Bill
Werner, corporate vice president of Motorola and general manager of the
company's iDEN Subscriber Group. "This application from Everypath allows
Motorola to collect input from developers using a familiar method of
communication and a device with built-in intelligence."
"Everypath is committed to supporting leading edge mobile technology and
is pleased to work with Motorola to provide an easy-to-use knowledge gathering
program that will help both Motorola and its developers take J2ME technology
development to the next level," said Prakash Iyer, chief technology officer of
Everypath. "This J2ME application is one more example of the power and
extensibility provided by the Everypath software platform. Whether it's
online or offline, thick or thin client, Everypath software future proofs our
customers and partners from the continuous advances in the mobile industry."
These models will be available beginning this month through iDEN network
operators including Nextel Communications, Southern LINC, and Pacific Wireless
Technologies in the United States. TELUS Mobility in Canada will offer the
i85s handset in the coming months.
