Mt. Sierra College Reaches Enrollment Milestone

Apr 16, 2001, 01:00 ET from Mt. Sierra College

MONROVIA, Calif., April 16 /PRNewswire/ -- This spring, Mt. Sierra College
passed the 1000 student mark for enrollment in information technology bachelor
degree programs. The milestone is notable in that the college has offered the
degree programs for only three years. The rate of growth far outstrips
typical enrollment rates in degree programs at other established colleges and
universities, public or private. In making the announcement, college vice
president John Andrews cited the strong demand for qualified IT and multimedia
design professionals in business and entertainment, as well as rapidly
expanding awareness of the unique programs offered by the college.
Although specializing in the hands-on technologies employers demand today,
the college is known for offering students more. "Graduates gain immediate
high-earning power in technology careers. They also receive career-building
self-development courses that help them advance once on the job," according to
Mr. Andrews. Also included: professional certification preparation in
multiple current technologies, and career placement assistance.
The college has been historically a Novell, then Microsoft certification
preparation school. Today, degree-seeking students outnumber certification-
seekers by five to one. The demand for technology professionals is
demonstrated by the success rate of current Mt. Sierra College students. "We
have just begun graduating students, but among the nearly 50 grads we have had
so far, 100% have been placed, with average starting salaries in the
$45,000 to $50,000 range. We're very proud of them." The student population
is primarily comprised of Latinos, Asians, caucasians and African-Americans.
About 20% of the population is female, a rapidly growing trend. "Technology
is one playing field where females have achieved parity in terms of earning
power," adds Andrews. "I am surprised that more women don't take advantage of
 these opportunities."
The college plans an open house for the public, Technology Expo, coming up
on May 17th. Those interested should call 1.800.240.2500 for more
 information.

Mt. Sierra College, located in Monrovia, offers bachelor's degrees in
multimedia design, telecommunications, and computer information technology,
all of which can be completed in 3 years. The college is also offers
