MTS Achieves Record Aerospace Bookings

Apr 11, 2001, 01:00 ET from MTS Systems Corporation

    EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn., April 11 /PRNewswire/ --
MTS Systems Corporation (Nasdaq: MTSC) announced today receipt of a
$3.95 million contract for full-scale aircraft structural test system hardware
and software from Embraer, Brazil. With that order, MTS bookings from the
aerospace market at the midpoint of fiscal year 2001 exceed $30 million -- far
greater than any past year's total annual volume.
To be installed in Embraer's principal manufacturing test facility in Sao
Jose does Campos, Sao Paulo, Brazil, the system will be used in the
development of new ERJ 170 and ERJ 190 regional jet passenger aircraft. This
continues MTS's longstanding relationship of delivering state-of-the-art
structural test equipment to Embraer, one of the four major commercial
 aircraft manufacturers in the world.
"The Embraer system will be based on our leading edge Aero-90(TM)
platform, which we have continually kept at state-of-the art performance
levels through regular investments in both new software and hardware," said
Sidney W. Emery, Jr., MTS chairman and CEO. "MTS enjoys the leading worldwide
market share in structural testing solutions for all types of military and
commercial aircraft with over 100 Aero-90 systems installed. This is due to
aggressive internal technology investments, close partnerships with world
leading data acquisition hardware providers and an on site support
organization that ensures maximum reliability of the delivered systems
wherever they are used worldwide. The strength of our order backlog this year
is indicative of both a strong market and the success of our approach. The
majority of these orders have come from outside North America. Virtually all
are related to passenger or cargo airframes -- both military and commercial."
This release contains "forward-looking statements" made pursuant to the
safe harbor provision of the Private Securities Litigation Reform Act of 1995
and are subject to certain risks and uncertainties, as well as assumptions,
that could cause actual results to differ materially from historical results
and those presently anticipated or projected. In addition to the factors
discussed above, other important risk factors are delineated in the Company's
SEC reports, including Form 10-K for the year ended September 30, 2000.
MTS Systems Corporation helps customers accelerate and improve their
design, development and manufacturing processes. MTS products include
modeling and testing software, computer-based testing and simulation systems
and consulting services for determining the mechanical behavior of materials,
products and structures, and control instrumentation products for automating
manufacturing processes. MTS had 2,350 employees and revenue of $392 million
for the fiscal year ending September 2000. Additional information on MTS can
