National 'Take Our Daughters to Work Day' Comes to Vons and Pavilions; Hundreds of Vons Daughters and Sons 'Go to Work' With Their Parents

Apr 26, 2001, 01:00 ET from Vons from ,Pavilions

LOS ANGELES, April 26 /PRNewswire/ -- On Thursday, April 26, Vons and
Pavilions will join millions of girls and boys across America to celebrate the
national "Take Our Daughters to Work" day. More than 250 Vons and Pavilions
stores in Southern California and Nevada are preparing to host hundreds of
children who will join their parents in a fun-filled day of learning and
 "working."
The Ms. Foundation for Women designed this national event to focus on
girls' ideas, needs and dreams -- and to help ensure that girls remain
confident, strong and in school throughout their teen years. Vons and
Pavilions have expanded the program to include all sons and daughters of Vons
and Pavilions employees between the ages of 9-15.
"For the past 6 years, Vons employees, their children and our customers
have truly enjoyed this special day," said Tom Keller, Vons Division
President. "We are among thousands of businesses across America demonstrating
our support and concern for these girls and boys."
Each store has developed a program unique to their store. The day's tasks
may include working the front-end bagging groceries, working in produce
bagging grapes and racking strawberries, or working elsewhere in the store
stocking product. They may also be asked to fill balloons, make floral
arrangements or check groceries. Each participant will have a time card and
badge so they feel like part of the Vons team.
Vons is a division of Safeway Inc., one of the largest food and drug
retailers in North America. The company operates 324 stores in California and
Nevada under the Vons and Pavilions banners. Vons has a strong tradition of
supporting the communities where it operates stores by contributing millions
to schools, non-profit organizations, youth programs, churches and food banks
 each year.
