Salary.com Celebrates the Value of a Mother's Work
WALTHAM, Mass., May 10, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Salary.com is excited to celebrate the announcement of the Grand Prize Winner of "Kathie Lee and Hoda's Mom of the Year Contest with Salary.com." Jennifer Winn from Verdigris, Okla. was named Mom of the Year and received a Grand Prize check for $112,962 – a Salary.com calculation of what mothers would make if they were paid an annual salary for their work.
Jennifer was nominated by her husband Kenneth Winn, who described her as the "typical military wife…basically a single mother" while he was deployed for long stretches in the 1990s with the Navy. Kenneth, who recently had a lower leg amputation due to sustained injuries from a motorcycle accident, detailed in his nomination essay Jennifer's typical 16+ hour day – filled with juggling kids and school commitments, soccer practice, doctor appointments, and selfless care for the family.
"It's very humbling to me and I'm just so appreciative of my husband taking the time to write that essay," Jennifer said. "It's very touching to me and heartfelt. This is a wonderful honor."
Jennifer was doubly surprised when presented with a check for six figures -- $112,962. Kenneth hadn't told her about the cash prize.
"We are excited to celebrate Jennifer and the important work that moms around the country do every single day," said Abby Euler, general manager at Salary.com. "Mother's Day is a time to let Mom know how much you appreciate her. Although we could never put a dollar figure on the important work of moms, it's a great way to acknowledge the impact they have on all of us."
