PORTSMOUTH, N.H., April 11 /PRNewswire/ -- Net to Net Technologies, the
leading provider of simple, cost-effective, IP Broadband Access solutions,
will integrate key new IP QoS features into the company's family of
Ethernet-based IP DSLAMs. These new features will allow broadband service
providers to enforce Service Level Agreements (SLA's). Support for SLA's will
enable providers to offer new revenue-generating services. Because these
features will be integrated within the DSL Access Multiplexer (DSLAM), the
definition of service levels and the enforcement of bandwidth allocation will
occur automatically from within the DSL access hardware. As with all of Net
to Net's solutions, AutoQoS provides an IP alternative to expensive, complex
 and difficult-to-configure ATM solutions.
The new features will be made available to all existing Net to Net IP
DSLAM hardware, and will include the ability to:
-- Define Quality of Service (QoS) based upon 802.1p tags or IP Type of
        Service (TOS) bits
-- Enforce QoS using traffic shaping mechanisms within the DSLAM
-- Provide dynamic bandwidth allocation, including minimum bandwidth
        levels

Combined, these features allow the type of control required by ILECs,
CLECs, and ISPs to offer SLA's, which are seen as a leading incentive to new
DSL subscribers, especially for small and medium sized businesses. SLA's also
provide increased revenue potential for the provider through premium services.
Net to Net's AutoQoS builds upon the company's tradition of offering
advanced services in a concise and easy-to-deploy manner. AutoQoS uses
elements of the IP protocol and well-established Ethernet LAN protocols such
as 802.1Q/p in combination with advanced bandwidth allocation and management.
The result is support for SLA's within the DSLAM using technology that is
familiar to network administrators, and that will integrate seamlessly into a
service provider's data network or even into an end-user's LAN.
"We call it AutoQoS because it's the only IP QoS implementation that will
integrate with existing Customer Premise LANs, enforcing any IP QoS
definitions that may already be used by the end user," stated Net to Net CEO
Kenneth Latimer. "In these cases, the IP QoS is automatic -- nothing to
configure at all. An easy-to-use web-based management system is provided for
those end users without QoS mechanisms already in place."
The ability for Net to Net's Ethernet-based DSL solution to seamlessly
integrate features such as VLAN's and IP QoS with Ethernet LANs -- both
upstream and downstream of the DSLAM -- positions Net to Net's solution as the
ideal choice for offering business-class DSL.
AutoQoS features will be offered as a firmware upgrade to existing Net to
Net IP DSLAM equipment in early Q4, 2001.
