New Elevator Drive by ThyssenKrupp Elevator Reduces Energy Costs by Up to 35%

Apr 02, 2001, 01:00 ET from ThyssenKrupp Elevator

MEMPHIS, Tenn., April 2 /PRNewswire/ -- ThyssenKrupp Elevator introduces
its new Thyssen 10K Drive(TM) system. A breakthrough design for modernizing
existing gearless elevator systems, this new product is a line regenerative DC
drive system that delivers maximum energy efficiency and reduces elevator
operating costs by up to 35 percent.
The drive system is designed to modernize high-speed elevator systems with
DC gearless machines, regardless of the original manufacturer.
"The Thyssen 1OK Drive(TM) system can provide important energy savings for
building managers who are faced with rising HVAC operating costs and the power
needs of new information technology equipment," Vice President of Product
Planning Rory Smith noted. "The '1OK' not only delivers quality power, but it
also offers protection from electrical interference problems caused by some
 elevator systems."
The "10K" incorporates 10,000-pulse-per-second technology used to produce
Variable Voltage DC (VVDC). The technology has a total harmonic distortion
(THD) of less than five percent, a power factor of near unity and almost
completely eliminates radio frequency interference (RFI).
By using Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) technology, the drive is able to
produce either AC or DC frequencies. The Thyssen 1OK Drive(TM) system
complies with International Electronics and Electrical Engineers 519
(IEEE-519) standards and carries EMC certification labels for Canada, the
United States and the European Community.
ThyssenKrupp Elevator has 10,500 employees and is represented by over 300
sales and service locations in the United States and Canada. Since entering
the North American elevator market in the 1980s and acquiring Dover Elevators
in the 1990s, the company has grown to become the North American leader in
elevator sales and services. ThyssenKrupp Elevator is the third largest
manufacturer of elevators worldwide. ThyssenKrupp Elevator products are
recognized globally for their high quality of design, engineering, and
durability. For additional information or to contact ThyssenKrupp Elevator,
