CLEVELAND, Aug. 5, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Giovanni's Meats and Deli, a longtime establishment beloved by Cleveland residents, has been acquired by a couple who wants to add a modern twist to the traditional Italian atmosphere.
Giovanni's Meats and Deli was founded back in 1968 by a traditional Italian butcher, and the establishment remained in the Castrataro family for multiple generations. Wanting the business to thrive in new hands, former owner John Castrataro sold the business to Matthew and Priscilla Palesh on June 24, 2015.
Palesh and Palesh, husband and wife, have long held dreams of becoming entrepreneurs. Matthew Palesh, with a banking background and a passion for all things culinary, and Priscilla Palesh, with a Master's degree and a background in business and financial services, found Giovanni's to be the perfect opportunity for development. Together with strategic partners and the help of close family, they moved forward with the deal.
Wanting to maintain the authentic, community-focused, family-owned Italian vibe of Giovanni's, Palesh and Palesh worked closely with former owner John Castrataro throughout the transition process, getting to know the regulars and paying attention to the details that have made the deli a success for nearly fifty years.
However, the new owners are also looking to update the brand with a modern, more approachable feel. Among the new improvements will be a new company logo, a renovated interior, and a more robust selection of hormone-free, locally grown meats and food products. Already, Palesh and Palesh have overhauled the deli's older systems, making the checkout process faster and smoother, and giving more services and better choices to their customers. They have also doubled the staff, and are preparing for additional improvements as the months continue, including free "consultations" for any culinary event.
"We want to be the shop people go to when they don't know what to make," says Priscilla Palesh, owner. Patrons who visit the deli looking for just the right recipe can consult the staff, who will help them find and print the perfect recipe, select the right ingredients, and even choose a signature blend of spices from the seasoning line.
To celebrate the new ownership and new direction, Giovanni's Meats and Deli will be hosting a Launch Party on Saturday, August 29th, from 12 pm to 2 pm. Attendance is free, and Giovanni's will be offering samples, door prizes, music, 10% off all purchases, and the opportunity to meet the new owners and staff. More information about the public event can be found on Facebook.
Together, Palesh and Palesh hope to live up to the high traditional standards set by the Castrataro family, while improving the overall experience and catering to a new, younger audience at the same time. You can try Giovanni's Meats and Deli for yourself at 5716 Mayfield Rd in Cleveland.
