 commercial use, today announced the appointment of Richard L. Kern, Jr. to the
 newly created position of President of the Company's Lowe's Division,
 reporting to Joseph Galli, the Company's President & CEO.  Lowe's is a 650
 store home improvement chain with stores throughout the United States.
     Mr. Kern is responsible for reorganizing and integrating the Company's
 Lowe's sales force and unifying sales strategies across all brands and
 divisions company wide.  He is also charged with sell-in and sell-through
 initiatives, utilizing the Company's tremendous portfolio of products.

     Mr. Kern began his career with Black & Decker and brings over 15 years

 President, General Manager of Black & Decker's Lowe's Division, he recruited
 an 80-person in-store sales and marketing team and built the Lowe's business
 from $30 million to over $300 million.  Ric earned his BS degree in marketing
 from Marshall University in 1985.
