LAS VEGAS, April 5 /PRNewswire/ -- The 50th Anniversary edition of NHRA
drag racing brings its Federal-Mogul sportsman categories and professional
classes to Las Vegas Motor Speedway this weekend, April 5-8, for the 2nd
Annual SummitRacing.com NHRA Nationals. The event begins today with Federal-
Mogul qualifying and ends with final eliminations Sunday afternoon.
The fifth of 24 national events in the annual NHRA Federal-Mogul Drag
Racing Series, the SummitRacing.com NHRA Nationals is another important stop
in the season-long celebration of NHRA's 50th Anniversary. Series sponsor
Federal-Mogul Corporation, a global manufacturer of automotive components, is
partnering with NHRA in several promotions and special programs to involve
automotive aftermarket professionals and racing fans in commemorating the
 achievement.
"It's fitting that NHRA's 50th Anniversary coincides with what's turning
out to be the most exciting sportsman drag racing season in history," said Jay
Burkhart, vice president of marketing for Federal-Mogul. "The partnership
between NHRA, sportsman racers and Federal-Mogul's Sealed Power(R) engine
parts, Champion(R) spark plugs and Fel-Pro(R) gaskets brands is stronger than
 ever."
One of the 50th Anniversary promotions -- the Sealed Power "Power Team" --
allows professional engine rebuilders to qualify for three levels of exclusive
NHRA 50th Anniversary premiums, including a custom-embroidered leather jacket
with classic "biker cut," collector's trading-card set of NHRA drivers and
events, and a die-cast Top Fuel Dragster.
Racing fans can purchase a full range of exclusive collectibles by

The Federal-Mogul Drag Racing Series covers all competition within NHRA's
eight largest categories: Federal-Mogul Dragster, Federal-Mogul Funny Car,
Competition Eliminator, Super Stock, Super Comp, Stock, Super Gas and Super
 Street.
In addition to title sponsorship of all sportsman competition, Federal-
Mogul's strategic marketing partnership with NHRA includes the Sealed Power
Low-Qualifier Award, which rewards top qualifiers in five categories at
 divisional and national events.
Sealed Power engine parts -- Federal-Mogul's premier brand of internal
engine components -- also is an official brand of NHRA, the first marketing
partnership of its kind within the engine components category. The Sealed
Power product family comprises a complete system of internal parts --
including pistons, piston rings, camshafts, bearings, valves and valvetrain
components, timing products and oil pumps -- for virtually any domestic or
 import engine.
Last year's SummitRacing.com Nationals brought a sellout crowd to the
gambling capital's newest attraction. The huge audience didn't go home
disappointed, with extremely tight racing in virtually every Federal-Mogul
sportsman category, plus a huge upset in the Federal-Mogul Dragster (FMD)
class. That upset was four-time-defending FMD champion Rick Santos' failure
to make it into the final round. Santos will be back this year, along with
defending event champion Darren Nicholson, and the year's fastest FMD driver
-- Dave Baca. Baca's nitromethane-fueled dragster has lacked the consistency
 of Santos' alcohol-fueled entry, however.
"Any time Santos lines up against a 'Fuel' (nitro) car, it's bound to be
the best battle of the day," said Federal-Mogul Brand Manager Peter Meyers.
"One thing fans can count on with each and every round of sportsman
competition is that the drivers are doing absolutely everything they can to
win. That's the beauty of the Federal-Mogul series."
In addition to Santos, Nicholson, Baca and more than a dozen other FMD
drivers, fans in Las Vegas will see many of the world's best sportsman drag
racers, including the defending event champions in the Federal-Mogul Funny Car
(Rod Alexander), Competition Eliminator (David Rampy), Super Stock (Tony
DeFrank), Super Comp (Scotty Richardson), Stock (Jim Hughes) and Super Gas
 (Glenn Smith) categories.
