NEW YORK, April 17 /PRNewswire/ -- Nickelodeon GAS: Games and Sports for
Kids will hold a spring training weekend in New York City for seven lucky kid
reporters from Thursday, April 26, to Sunday, April 29. The kids were
selected to participate after winning a nationwide search for kid games &
sports reporters, or GAScasters, held in partnership with Nickelodeon GAS and
cable systems throughout the country. A GAScaster is a kid reporter who
covers the hottest games and sporting events in his or her hometown,
 exclusively for Nickelodeon GAS.
"The GAScaster program gives kids an insider's view into the world of
sportscasting and lets them celebrate their love of games and sports right
next to some of their favorite professional athletes and broadcasters," said
Mark Offitzer, Vice President and General Manager, Nickelodeon GAS.
The winners will spend the day at the Nickelodeon offices in New York,
where they will meet with writers, producers and editors and learn the ins and
outs of the sportscasting trade from guest speakers, including CBS
sportscaster Bonnie Bernstein. The GAScasters will also get the opportunity
to interview professional athletes Jason Sehorn of the NY Giants and Teresa
 Weatherspoon of the NY Liberty.
The winners will be official GAScasters for one year, creating, writing,
reporting and editing stories on local games and sporting events in their
hometowns. The stories will air nationwide on Nickelodeon GAS: Games and
 Sports for Kids.
Nickelodeon GAS: Games and Sports for Kids launched March 1, 1999, and
features interactive on-air and online programming and a magazine dedicated
exclusively to all the games and sports kids love to play. Hosted by Vivianne
Collins, Dave Aizer and Mati Moralejo, Nickelodeon GAS features Nickelodeon's
 vast library of kids-first game shows including: Global Guts; Double Dare;
Wild & Crazy Kids; Figure It Out, hosted by Summer Sanders; and sports-related
programs such as Sports Theatre with Shaquille O'Neal and Extreme GAS with
