Apr 12, 2001, 01:00 ET from TUV America, Inc.

DANVERS, Mass., April 12 /PRNewswire/ -- TUV Product Service
(www.tuvglobal.com) announces it has partnered with 7 layers AG
(www.7layers.com) to provide the first North American facility built
exclusively for final test and qualification of Bluetooth wireless technology
 products.
The new TUV Product Service Bluetooth laboratory, opened in December 2000,
features a suite of highly specialized Rhode & Schwarz test and measurement
equipment. The laboratory, built in response to the explosive demand for new
products featuring Bluetooth technology, is the newest addition to TUV Product
Service's comprehensive telecom, EMC, radio, and product safety test
 facilities.
7 layers, which currently manages client-owned test facilities in the
U.S., Europe and Asia and operates Bluetooth test facilities in the U.S. and
Europe, will support the TUV Product Service Bluetooth test facility with the
same degree of innovation, automation and responsiveness as their own labs.
This cooperative effort combines decades of experience in the
telecommunications and wireless technology industries. Successful testing at
the Santa Clara, CA facility enables manufacturers to attain formal
qualification and have their products bear the Bluetooth trademark.
"To further strengthen our position as a global certification leader, our
customers can now take advantage of Bluetooth testing as part of a 'single-
source' test and qualification solution," stated Harry Ward, Technical Manager
and Bluetooth Qualification Body (BQB), TUV Product Service. "The anticipated
net effect for our Bluetooth customers is a significantly accelerated
approvals process, reduced qualification costs and faster time-to-market in
the U.S. and other global markets."
TUV Product Service's Bluetooth facility is one of the first North
American labs slated to be recognized as a formal Bluetooth Qualification Test
Facility (BQTF). "In a proactive move to anticipate and support market
requirements, we will provide our North American customers with a world-class
service," stated Matthias Popp, CEO of TUV Product Service. "Our status as a
Bluetooth test and qualification facility will serve as a valuable adjunct to
our existing analog, digital, wireless and RF product certification
offerings," explained Harry Ward, Technical Manager and Bluetooth
Qualification Body at TUV Product Service, Santa Clara.
"7 layers operates a Bluetooth protocol and GSM test facility in Irvine,
CA, that will compliment the TUV Bluetooth test facility, thus providing a
more complete range of test services for wireless communications products,"
explained Mr. James Cunningham, Technical Manager and Bluetooth Qualification
 Body at 7 layers Inc.

     About Bluetooth
Bluetooth is an always-on, short-range radio technology, which facilitates
the communication between electronic devices across limited distances without
cables, wires, or any physical connection. Poised to revolutionize the way
users interact with a growing list of products, the number of Bluetooth-
enabled devices is projected to top one billion by 2005.

Developed originally in the 1990's by mobile-phone maker Ericsson
(Nasdaq: ERICY), Bluetooth has recently been promoted as a cross-industry
standard by high-tech heavyweights such as Nokia (NYSE: NOK), Intel
(Nasdaq: INTC), IBM (NYSE: IBM), Toshiba (OTC: TOSBF), Microsoft
(Nasdaq: MSFT), Lucent (NYSE: LU), Motorola (Nasdaq: MOT), and 3Com
(Nasdaq: COMS), who joined forces with Ericsson in 1998 to form the Bluetooth
Special Interest Group (SIG). In addition to the SIG members, over 2000 small
and medium-sized companies have signed up for royalty-free rights to provide
the foundation for the emerging technology's growth.

The new wireless technology will be well adapted to a wide variety of
consumer electronic, industrial, automotive, telecommunications and medical
applications. The first mobile phones, PC peripherals and notebook computers
utilizing Bluetooth technology are scheduled to enter the market in the first
 quarter of 2001.
