Northwest Airlines Introduces Summer Service to/From Minneapolis/St. Paul To Aspen, Colo.; Daily Nonstop Service Operates July 1 to August 31

    MINNEAPOLIS/ST.PAUL, Minn., April 2 /PRNewswire/ --
     Northwest Airlines (Nasdaq:   NWAC) and its Northwest Airlink affiliate,
 Mesaba Airlines, announced today the return of seasonal summer nonstop service
 from its hub in Minneapolis/St. Paul to Aspen, Colo., beginning July 1.
     Northwest will fly one daily nonstop between the Twin Cities and Aspen,
 which has become a popular summer vacation destination in addition to its
 status as a skier's paradise.  Northwest Airlink will operate all flights,
 using the Avro RJ85 regional jet (ARJ).  The flights will run from July 1 to
 August 31.

     Winter service to Aspen will return in mid-December.

     The 69-seat ARJs, which first entered Northwest Airlink service in June
 1997, are specially configured with a 16-seat first class cabin and 53 coach
 seats.  This configuration makes ARJs the most spacious regional jet in the
 industry and the only regional jet with a first class.
