Novarra Names Jayanthi Rangarajan Vice President of Research and Development

Former Motorola Director Brings More Than 10 years of Wireless Technology

Expertise to Manage Strategic Development Efforts of Novarra's Instant

Wireless Software for eBusiness

Apr 25, 2001, 01:00 ET from Novarra, Inc.

ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill., April 25 /PRNewswire/ -- Novarra, Inc., a leading
provider of instant wireless software empowering the mobile workforce with
wireless access to eBusiness applications, today announced the appointment of
Jayanthi Rangarajan as vice president of research and development. In this
position, Rangarajan will drive technology strategy and products that deliver
on Novarra's vision to automatically adapt desktop content to small-screened
handheld devices across wireless data networks, with a standards-based
 approach.
"My initial attraction to Novarra was because we solve a critical pain
point for the wireless industry with unique patent pending technology that
automatically delivers dynamic desktop web technologies to handheld devices
without compromising on a tight, rich user experience," Rangarajan said.
"This is quite unlike first generation technologies like screen scraping,
 transcoding, etc."
Enormous market momentum is being created due to a rapid revolution both
in handheld devices as well as the underlying network infrastructure, with
protocols like XHTML, WAP and the greater speeds and flexibility of 2.5G and
3G. Novarra enables the missing piece, which is usable unlimited content.
"The Novarra differentiator is leapfrog technology that is also future-proof,
whereas the available alternatives are typically large cycle time development
projects, labor intensive, proprietary, and application, network or device
 specific," she continued.
For more than 10 years, Rangarajan worked in various roles at Motorola
managing software systems development, architecting product roadmaps, forging
technology partnerships and developing key strategies targeted towards mobile
Internet applications. Most recently at Motorola's Internet and Networking
Group, as senior director of speech systems, she managed development of a
speech gateway and server targeted at wireless carriers, service providers and
the enterprise. Earlier, Rangarajan was director of technology strategy for
products bridging the Internet to wireless, including WAP, HTML and VoiceXML
domains, and targeting mobile devices and users across paging, cellular and 3G
networks. With the Cellular Infrastructure Group, she managed development to
deliver the first and subsequent Digital Cellular CDMA & PDC (Japan)
commercial systems and areas like Data Services for CDMA. She also worked at
Nippon Motorola in Tokyo, in an initial business development role for digital
 cellular.
"Jayanthi's in-depth experience in developing wireless communications
technology makes her a veteran in this emerging technology market," said Art
Roldan, president and CEO of Novarra. "Her proficiency in competitive
strategy and new product lifecycles combined with a track record in delivering
and maintaining commercial products worldwide make her a critical addition to
our team as we continue to establish ourselves as a world-class provider of
 wireless solutions."
Rangarajan began her career at Andersen Consulting. She holds a master's
degree in electrical engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and a
bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from College of Engineering Guindy
 in Madras, India.
