Apr 19, 2001, 01:00 ET from Novartis Ophthalmics, Inc.

    ATLANTA, April 19 /PRNewswire/ -- A first-of-its-kind Web-based Internet
service from Novartis Ophthalmics, Inc. now helps managed-care organizations
provide healthcare providers and their patients important information about
eye diseases and their treatments quickly and easily. And it's free.
Novartis Ophthalmics will demonstrate OphthaInsight.com today at the
Academy of Managed Care Pharmacy meeting in Tampa, Fla. The online service at
www.OphthaInsight.com offers information that can be custom-tailored with the
click of a mouse by managed-care administrators who need to keep network
physicians and their patients up-to-date on the proper use of drugs for
 various diseases.
The protected site, which can only be accessed by password, offers pre-
written educational and promotional materials including formulary announcement
letters for physicians and patient-education brochures. Administrators can
customize the text and add their company logos.
"Before, it took months for materials to be created, approved and
printed," said Robert Phipps, director of Managed Care and Government Affairs
for Novartis Ophthalmics, North America. "Now administrators can customize
their information for their physicians in about 30 minutes, and we can have
the printed materials back to them in 14 days. More importantly, the program
helps managed-care organizations encourage their physicians to comply with
 their formulary decisions."
The site provides information about the formulary status and benefits of
Novartis products such as Rescula(C) (unoprostone isopropyl ophthalmic
solution) 0.15%, the first and only docosanoid for treating glaucoma, and
 Zaditor(TM) (ketotifen fumarate ophthalmic solution) 0.025%, a multiple-action
ocular allergy product that relieves itchy eyes for up to 12 hours. It
includes guidance on other pharmaceutical products, as well.
     Atlanta-based Adair-Greene Healthcare Communications developed
OphthaInsight.com in partnership with Novartis Ophthalmics. More information
on the new service is available on the Web site.
