REDWOOD CITY, Calif., April 23 /PRNewswire Interactive News Release/ --
CoSine Communications, Inc., a leading provider of managed, network-based
IP Service Delivery Platforms for Service Providers, announced today that
NTT Communications (NYSE: NTT) has purchased CoSine's IP Service Delivery
Platform to provide a transcontinental, network- and IPSec-based Virtual
Private Network (VPN) service to customers around the world.
NTT Communications, an international telecommunications carrier reaching
over 200 countries worldwide, will provide an international, network-based VPN
service that secures select corporate customers' IP traffic between NTT
Communication's Japanese network via its Tokyo Point of Presence (POP) and
other locations throughout the world. NTT Communications' IPSec-based VPN
service provides business customers secure international IP transport without
the operational and maintenance costs associated with VPNs built using
equipment that resides at the customer location. Instead of requiring an
array of devices located at subscriber sites all around the world, CoSine's
platform will provide VPN and IP services from within NTT Communications'
POPs, where they can be centrally managed and supported by the Service
 Provider.
"NTT Communications' purchase of CoSine's solution is a validation of the
network-based platform strategy and demonstrates their leadership in
recognizing that value-added IP services are a strategic business tool for
Service Providers in today's Internet-driven economy," said Dean Hamilton,
president and chief executive officer of CoSine. "The CoSine platform enables
Service Providers like NTT Communications to leverage their global network to
provide value-added IP services that complement their existing portfolio of
voice and data services. NTT Communications is essentially creating one-stop
shopping for enterprises that want to leverage the Internet to conduct
 business all over the world."
NTT Communications has successfully tested the VPN service for the past
nine months and plans to roll it out to select customers worldwide. The
purchase of the CoSine solution was made through NTT Communications'
 value-added reseller, the NEC Corporation.

About CoSine's IP Service Delivery Platform
CoSine's solution includes its IPSX 9000(TM) Service Processing Switch, a
carrier-class product that marries scalable computing, switching, and routing
hardware with an open architecture operating system and market-leading
application software. The platform also includes the InVision(TM) Service
Management System (SMS), and the InGage(TM) Customer Network Management (CNM)
system. This solution enables Service Providers to create, manage, and
deliver value-added IP services to enterprise customers, who in turn can
monitor and control their services over the public IP network.
CoSine's platform is designed to support managed, network-based IP application
services such as IPSec and Multi-Protocol Label Switching VPNs; Network
Associates Gauntlet Firewalls; McAfee WebShield Virus Scanning; PGP Security's
CyberCop Monitor Intrusion Detection; IP-Enabled Frame Relay; Frame Relay to
 IPSec Interworking and Frame Relay over IPSec; Secure DSL; Secure Virtual LAN;
URL filtering; virtual routing and more.
