ATLANTA, Aug. 11, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- NueMD today announced the ICD-10 Training Lab, a free online tool designed to help healthcare professionals prepare for the upcoming transition to ICD-10. Featuring a robust code search and several training games, the lab was built with medical billers and small healthcare practices in mind, but is available to everyone looking to improve their knowledge of ICD-10.
Based on recent survey results, NueMD found that only 11.4% of healthcare professionals said they felt "highly confident" that they would be adequately trained for ICD-10 by October 1.
"After seeing the survey results, we wanted to do our part to ease those tensions," said Caleb Clarke, director of sales and marketing at NueMD. "We hear you. And we've created the lab to help get everyone up to speed."
Inside the training lab users will find:
- An easy-to-use code search featuring lookup by ICD-9/10 code or description
- A growing list of common codes organized by specialty
- Training games to help users quickly learn ICD-10
Of the three components, users will likely find the Code Search to be most helpful even after the October 1 deadline.
"I think this will be a great resource," said Dr. Steven Pena, DC. "I'll probably end up using it more than the ICD[-10] book for my specialty. It's laid out very well."
The Code Search displays results for both ICD-9 and ICD-10 code sets on one screen. The tool is also capable of understanding common shorthand and can even assist with tricky conversion scenarios where there is no clear one-to-one solution. Additionally, the interface helps users easily navigate to billable codes from less specific category codes.
The Codes by Specialty portion of the lab is a collection of codes organized by specialty to help users quickly find the codes most relevant to them. Users can also save and manage their own lists of codes for quick reference and future study.
The lab is launching with three training games with more games coming soon. Titles include classics like Memory Cards and Hangman. Users can play games with their custom code lists or specialty-specific code lists to compete against other users and defend their place on the leaderboard.
NueMD plans to continue developing the lab by fine-tuning the search algorithm and releasing new games and updates well beyond the initial October transition.
