OCC Announces New Daily Options Volume Records

    CHICAGO, April 19 /PRNewswire/ -- The Options Clearing Corporation (OCC)
 reported today that for the third time this year, a new record was set for
 total options volume.  Yesterday, 6,822,777 contracts traded, shattering the
 previous record of 6,172,125 contracts on Jan.19.
     Equity options volume also reached a new record with 6,224,906 contracts,
 surpassing the previous record of 5,825,431 contracts also set on Jan.19.
     "The market upturn and pending expiration fueled the surge in options
 volume yesterday," said Wayne P. Luthringshausen, Chairman and CEO of OCC.
 "OCC remains committed and well-positioned in its clearing and settlement
 process to handle the increased options activity."
     Year-to-date average daily options volume at OCC is 3,503,325 contracts.
