Partners Laud Ability to Extend Highly Productive Java Tool

Dec 05, 2001, 00:00 ET from Oracle Corporation

ORACLE OPENWORLD, SAN FRANCISCO, Dec. 5 /PRNewswire/ --
( http://www.oracle.com/tellmemore/?1158538 ) Oracle Corp. (Nasdaq: ORCL), the
world's largest enterprise software company, today announced a major step
forward in Java development productivity with the launch of Oracle9i
JDeveloper and its new Add-In Kit for integrating third party and open-source
tools. Oracle9i JDeveloper now offers developers and partners the flexibility
to easily customize and extend its powerful J2EE, XML and SQL Integrated
Development Environment (IDE) to best suit development needs. Ten partners,
including BMC Software and Sitraka, will be immediately working with Oracle to
integrate their development solutions with Oracle9i JDeveloper.
"The mainstream acceptance of J2EE application servers has increased the
need for open and interoperable Java development tools," said Rikki Kirzner,
research director at industry analyst firm IDC. "The importance of being able
to deploy to any J2EE-certified application server as well as being able to
use a fully flexible development environment that can be easily customized and
extended with third party tools or in-house utilities helps developers get
their products to market in a rapid and cost effective manner."
Now downloadable free-of-charge from Oracle's online developer community,
Oracle(R) Technology Network, the Oracle9i JDeveloper Add-In Kit includes
everything developers and partners need to integrate a wide range of third
party, open-source, and custom development, testing and management tools with
Oracle9i JDeveloper -- including documentation, samples on how to use the
Add-In programming interfaces and use case scenarios.

Developers and Partners to Benefit from Openness of New Java Tool
Before being made publicly available, the Oracle9i JDeveloper Add-in Kit
was used by Oracle's own internal development teams to extend Oracle9i
JDeveloper's core IDE with new integrated capabilities such as Unified
Modeling Language (UML) modeling, enterprise reporting and business
intelligence. Now partners and developers will benefit from the same ability
to integrate additional tools and functionality with Oracle9i JDeveloper. The
first partners scheduled to take advantage of the new open and extensible
capabilities of Oracle9i JDeveloper include BMC Software, Codagen,
InCert Software, Informatik Atelier, Intrinsyc Software, Quintessence,
Sitraka, VisualSoft Technologies, VMGear and Zero G Software.
"BMC Software is very excited to be one of the first partners to release
an integrated solution with the new Oracle9i JDeveloper," said
William Donahoo, vice president of Business Development for the Distributed
Data Management division of BMC Software. "The seamless integration between
Oracle9i JDeveloper and BMC's award winning SQL Programmer(R) further expands
Oracle's highly productive Java IDE to help developers improve the quality and
 performance of J2EE database applications."
"Not only does Oracle9i JDeveloper allow developers to build 100 percent
standards-based applications, but the tool itself is completely open and
extensible," said William Dwight, vice president of Application Development
Tools at Oracle. "The new Oracle9i JDeveloper Add-In Kit opens up external
access to the same programming interfaces that we use internally to extend the
core IDE, thereby allowing our partners to quickly deliver high quality,
tightly integrated solutions to the entire Oracle developer community."

     About Oracle9i JDeveloper
With full support for open-standards development on any operating system,
Oracle9i JDeveloper provides full development life-cycle support for Java
developers creating business applications and Web services. Oracle9i
JDeveloper offers built-in features for optimizing the performance of Java
applications while providing a single Integrated Development Environment for
J2EE, XML and SQL; business intelligence; UML (Unified Modeling Language)

Oracle9i JDeveloper and the Oracle9i JDeveloper Add-In Kit are immediately
available for free download to developers through the Oracle Technology
Network. Oracle9i JDeveloper will also be sold as part of Oracle9i Developer
