PanAmSat to Deliver A&E Television Networks for Two More Decades; A&E Network Commits to PanAmSat's Galaxy Cable Neighborhood through 2018

Apr 23, 2001, 01:00 ET from PanAmSat Corporation

    LAS VEGAS, April 23 /PRNewswire Interactive News Release/ -- Booth #5313,
NAB 2001, Sands Expo Center -- PanAmSat Corporation (Nasdaq: SPOT) today
announced that A&E Television Networks has signed a new long-term agreement
that will extend the cable programmer's service in the Galaxy cable
neighborhood through 2018. Under the new agreement, PanAmSat will continue to
deliver the A&E Network's leading cable programming to more than 75 million
cable television households across the United States.
The A&E Network East Coast feed, a PanAmSat customer on the Galaxy V
domestic U.S. satellite, will continue its service on Galaxy V's successor
spacecraft, which will also be located at the prime 125-degree west longitude
 orbital slot.
"A&E Television Network's decision to extend its services on the Galaxy V
satellite highlights the confidence of the nation's top programmers in the
Galaxy cable neighborhood's long-term reliability, as well as PanAmSat's
unmatched service quality and customer support," said Ann E. Mountain,
PanAmSat's senior vice president, North American video sales. "In addition,
this agreement continues to demonstrate PanAmSat's commitment to maintaining
services at the highly-prized 125 degrees west longitude orbital location,
which is home to the country's premier cable neighborhood."
The A&E Network East Coast Feed will continue to take advantage of a full
C-band transponder on the Galaxy V satellite through its currently estimated
end of life in 2005. As called for in the new agreement, the cable network
will remain at the 125-degree west longitude orbital slot following the launch
and service commencement of a new spacecraft. The successor satellite is
expected to take Galaxy V's place as the leading platform for the delivery of
 the nation's premier cable programming.
     The agreement with A&E follows a separate long-term multi-spacecraft
arrangement signed in October 2000 with the ABC Cable Networks Group, the ESPN
networks and the ABC Television Network. Under the terms of the agreement,
PanAmSat is expanding their domestic and international distribution of the
Disney Channel, ESPN, SoapNet, Toon Disney and Buena Vista Television. The
company is also the preferred satellite television service provider for the
ABC Television Network and will provide special event and occasional services
 for ABC and ESPN.
     PanAmSat's Galaxy V satellite, a Boeing-built HS 376 model spacecraft, was
launched in March 1992 and is located at 125 degrees west longitude. The
satellite contains 24 high-power C-band transponders and provides complete
coverage of the continental United States. Together with Galaxy IR, Galaxy
IX, Galaxy XR and Galaxy XI, it forms the Galaxy cable neighborhood, which
delivers nine of the top 10 cable networks in the country and nearly
 100 channels in all.
