Panasonic's School Safety Zone Program was conceived by Frank DeFina,
President of Panasonic Security & Digital Imaging Company. The system
installed at Barringer High School has been donated by Panasonic SDIC and its
parent company, Matsushita Electric Corporation of America as part of the
 company's Corporate Outreach Program.
"Our goal is to select a school every year that can benefit from
Panasonic's School Safety Zone Program. Barringer High School in Newark, New
Jersey is the flagship installation for this new program. We worked closely
with officials from the Newark Public Schools to select the appropriate
location, and designed a CCTV system to meet their specific needs," said Mr.
DeFina. "We believe this highly advanced CCTV system's presence will help
maintain a safe learning environment that's conducive to higher education, and
also help stimulate students' interests in pursuing career opportunities in
 the electronics field."
The CCTV system in operation at Barringer High School was installed by MSI
Security Systems, Inc., an authorized Panasonic CCTV dealer located in Kearny,
New Jersey. The system includes the latest developments in surveillance
technology from Panasonic, including Super Dynamic II camera technology and an
advanced camera matrix switching system. 77 cameras are installed throughout
the high school to provide widespread coverage. Panasonic also plans to
upgrade the system's recording capabilities in upcoming weeks with newly
 developed digital disc recording devices.
"There is a growing need for schools to implement more stringent security
measures in urban, suburban and rural school districts," continued Mr. DeFina.
"With the creation of Panasonic's School Safety Zone Program, we believe we
are expediting this cause, while demonstrating how effective surveillance
equipment can be in a school environment."
