HORN LAKE, Miss., March 30, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- The American Contract Bridge League (ACBL) announces Atlanta resident, Patty Tucker, as the 2011 Goodwill Member of the Year, an honor awarded for unselfish dedication to the causes of good conduct, worthy participation and ethical behavior.

Tucker, who holds a laundry list of accomplishments within the bridge community including North American Open Pairs Champion (2000) and President of Atlanta Junior Bridge, received the honor at the Spring North American Bridge Competition (NABC) in Louisville, KY.

Each year, the Aileen Osofsky ACBL Goodwill Committee, a committee with representatives from each of the ACBL's 25 districts, select one of its own for recognition.  This year, Tucker was chosen by her peers to have her moniker added to the Goodwill Plaque housed at the ACBL Museum in Horn Lake, Miss.

"I can't think of a better person for the Goodwill award," said Goodwill Committee chair Rose Meltzer.  "No one has been more dedicated to bridge, and she has hit where we need it most, with the young people."

Meltzer is referring to Atlanta Junior Bridge, a non-profit organization Tucker co-founded with several other top bridge players in Atlanta.  Since the organization's inception in 2006, more than 2000 youth in the Atlanta area have learned to play, and over half of them are still active.

"I want to get bridge as part of the school day and inter-scholastic competitions going," said Tucker of her aspirations for the future.  "Atlanta is so spread out.  I'd like to get the students from the south end of town competing with students on the north end of town. I would love to have a central location open every afternoon and weekend where the kids could meet and play."

Her dedication to the game of bridge and ever-evolving aspirations for the future make Tucker a worthy recipient of this honor.
