And Host-Based Intrusion Detection for Linux on iSeries

Nov 28, 2001, 00:00 ET from PentaSafe Security Technologies Inc.

HOUSTON, Nov. 28 /PRNewswire/ -- PentaSafe Security Technologies Inc., a
leading enterprise security infrastructure and policy management company,
today announced the release of VigilEnt Security Agent for Linux on iSeries,
one of the first software solutions for managing security on one or more Linux
partitions running on IBM eServer iSeries servers.
PentaSafe's new VigilEnt Security Agent for Linux on iSeries enables
security administrators to audit, detect, and manage security-related issues
on multiple SuSE Linux partitions running on IBM eServer iSeries. VSA for
Linux on iSeries integrates with PentaSafe's VigilEnt Security Manager so that
security management and reporting can be done from a central console. A
single iSeries server can support up to 31 Linux partitions. The security of
all of these Linux partitions and others throughout an IT environment can all
be managed with VigilEnt Security Agent for Linux on iSeries from a central
point of control. PentaSafe's complementary product, VigilEnt Security Agent
for iSeries, also integrates with VigilEnt Security Manager enabling security
management, auditing, and reporting for both Linux and iSeries to be performed
from a centralized interface and enables all security information to be held
 in a central database.
"PentaSafe is a strong advocate of both Linux and IBM eServer iSeries,"
stated Bill Vance, VP of Research and Development for PentaSafe. "We were one
of the first security software companies to provide security software for
Linux and we we've been leading the pack in eServer iSeries security software
for four years now. So the introduction of VigilEnt Security Agent for Linux
on iSeries was an important and natural move for us. We feel that using Linux
on iSeries is an efficient business decision for many companies, and we want
to be one of the first to help them keep critical data secure on both systems
 and across the enterprise."
VigilEnt Security Agent for Linux on iSeries audits Linux partitions using
a globally recognized Australian CERT UNIX Security checklist, reveals areas
where the standards are not met, and recommends fixes to make Linux partitions
more secure. The Agent also provides over 200 audit checks and reports that
checks the Linux environment for potential security exposures, inefficient
users, invalid groups, risky passwords, and other vulnerabilities. VigilEnt
Security Agent for Linux on iSeries can also analyze user permissions, lock
down key files, and perform host-based intrusion detection. Alerts are sent
in real time if unauthorized use or suspicious activities are detected.
VigilEnt Security Agent for Linux on iSeries is very user-friendly, making
Linux security management easier for iSeries system administrators that may be
 unfamiliar with the Linux environment.
"IBM introduced Linux support on eServer iSeries to allow customers to run
and centrally manage their core business and e-business applications. Strong
security measures are a prerequisite to both," said Kim Stevenson, vice
president, IBM eServer iSeries Marketing Operations. "By offering secure
management for Linux on iSeries, PentaSafe is providing customers a valuable
service at a time when IT security has never been more important."
