CHICAGO, Dec. 1 /PRNewswire/ -- At this year's annual meeting of the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA), Royal Philips Electronics (NYSE: PHG, AEX: PHI) will introduce the Integral Breast Workspace, a set of solutions that provides radiologists the ability to review multi-modality breast images at one workspot to help drive quality and efficiency. Showcasing its commitment to breast care, Philips will also highlight new capabilities for its portfolio of diagnostic imaging systems in Mammography, Ultrasound and MRI.
Globally, breast cancer is the leading cause of cancer death among women. New guidelines suggest a multi-modality approach to screening, diagnosis and management. With an increasing number of patients and the need to review data from multiple modalities, radiologists are challenged with keeping up with the volume of studies that must be interpreted and reported on multiple workstations. Philips Integral Breast Workspace addresses this need for integrated image and information management.
"Think of all the duplicate work we currently do with all the separate systems," said Gillian Newstead, M.D., director of Clinical Breast Imaging at the University of Chicago. "Integration will save us a lot of time. And, at the same time it connects to better care for the patients by more accurately relating findings from the different modalities."
"Philips is focused on developing technologies that enhance services provided to women - from screening to diagnosis, treatment, management, surveillance and the exchanges in between," said Pat Venters, vice president, Women's Healthcare and Oncology Care Cycle Program, Philips Healthcare. "The introduction of the Integral Breast Workspace supports our goal of helping to improve the health and quality of women's lives worldwide."
Comprehensive image and information management solutions for women's health
The Integral Breast Workspace
The Integral Breast Workspace includes the products MammoDiagnost VU, Multi-modality Breast Applications and DynaCAD Enterprise Solution for advanced data analysis on a single workspot. The Integral Breast Workspace is also a multi-vendor workstation. The system addresses the need for integrated image and information management. It integrates complete BI-RADS® reporting for Mammography, Ultrasound and MRI, and also helps to streamline workflow by providing single-click comparisons with automated multi-modality presentation of patient history.
Philips mammography portfolio
The MammoDiagnost DR(1) is Philips' digital solution for mammography and is designed for efficient high-volume screening. It provides exceptional image quality as a result of Philips' UNIQUE image processing software. The intuitive, streamlined Eleva user interface at the console makes working with the system comfortable and efficient for the radiographer and allows for a quick and easy examination for the patient. It integrates seamlessly into existing PACS via DICOM for convenient and fast information transfer and archiving.
The MammoDiagnost VU is Philips' dedicated diagnostic viewing workstation for mammography. Unlike general systems, it is specifically designed to handle the high volumes of data occurring in mammography and switching between examinations takes less than a second. MammoDiagnost VU supports the entire imaging process and allows customization according to individual preferences.
SecondLook® Digital - CAD software for Mammography
SecondLook® Digital(1) from iCAD is Philips' new computer-aided solution to support physicians in identifying and marking suspicious areas. The software performs with both Philips' DR and CR mammography solutions.
Enhancing breast imaging with ultrasound
iU22 Ultrasound System and Elastography
The latest version of the iU22 ultrasound system featuring advanced breast imaging capabilities, including elastography, is on display at RSNA 2009.(2)
Elastography on the iU22 system with L12-5 transducer and Advanced Breast Tissue Specific Imaging (TSI) preset enables clinicians to differentiate relative stiffness of tissue through sonographic examination. Elastography, in addition to features such as volume imaging, tissue aberration correction and smart exam, make the iU22 well-suited for breast imaging.
MRI workflow solutions and truly patient-adaptive technology
Elite Breast Solution
The Elite Breast is a complete clinical solution for Philips 1.5T and 3.0T MRI systems. From patient preparation, through examination to reporting and intervention, the technology is designed to make breast MRI easier.
The Elite Breast has been proven to reduce total exam time by 10 minutes, which could result in a 30 percent improvement in clinical throughput. The solution includes advanced breast imaging techniques such as eThrive, the MammoTrak dockable patient support, diagnostic and biopsy coils, and the DynaCAD enterprise breast software for analysis and biopsy planning from the MR console.
High growth of Breast MRI procedures is expected from 2009-2016. Clinicians starting to offer or wanting to expand their breast services need a solution that makes Breast MRI simple, offers consistent high image quality and enables a competitive advantage through image quality, patient comfort and efficiency.
The Elite Breast solution is available with Philips Achieva 3.0T TX, a truly patient-adaptive MRI system setting the standard in MR imaging with MultiTransmit technology. MultiTransmit results in enhanced image uniformity and consistency and up to 40 percent faster scans to bring the benefits of the higher signal of 3T to breast imaging and mainstream radiology.
