Apr 11, 2001, 01:00 ET from Pihana Pacific

SINGAPORE, April 11 /PRNewswire/ -- Pihana Pacific, the first company to
provide neutral Internet Exchange (IX) data center services in Asia Pacific,
today announced the launch of its Asia Pacific regional headquarters,
Internet Exchange (IX) data center, and Network Operation Center (NOC), all
located in Singapore. Pihana has raised $236 million since being founded in
2000, including $190 million in one of the largest private equity investments
in Asia Pacific history with Goldman Sachs as its lead investor.
Pihana's 30,000 square foot world-class facility is the third to open in
Asia Pacific. This new best-of-breed facility provides a secure, neutral
environment where carriers, Internet service providers (ISPs), application
service providers (ASPs), content providers and multi-national corporations
are free to meet and interact, creating a new community of interest for
e-business communication. Pihana does not resell bandwidth nor is it
affiliated with any carrier or capacity provider. The company does offer a
unique suite of integrated services within a completely neutral facility:
IX, colocation, and value-added services such as Storage.
"Pihana offers a business, as well as technology solution, and strategic
geographic presence to Singapore's multi-nationals and Internet service
providers," said Richard Kalbrener, president and CEO of Pihana Pacific. "We
decided to base our regional headquarters and network operation center in
Singapore because it is pivotal to our regional strategy."
Pihana's Singapore-based network operation center (NOC) will be used to
monitor and provide customer support for Pihana facilities throughout Asia
 Pacific. Pihana's NOC uses a state-of-the-art, standards-based fault
management system for proactive facility and customer monitoring. To maintain
a low MTTR (mean-time-to-repair), Pihana has taken the industry's best
practice fault management processes and improved upon them to provide faster
fault resolution for customers. The NOC also offers true "local" language
support, significantly improving communication between Pihana and its
 customers.
In Singapore, SingTel and StarHub have already signed up as
telecommunications infrastructure providers for Pihana's facility.
"With our customized network diversity plan and proven state-of-the-art
telecommunication infrastructure, customers using Pihana's facilities will
enjoy best services with a high level of service assurance," said
Mr. Chu Leong Choon, Director of Domestic Wholesale, at SingTel.
"We are pleased to team up with Pihana Pacific to offer them bandwidth
services that are scalable to their customers' needs. Together with Pihana,
we also hope to expand our existing customer base by offering StarHub's
comprehensive range of fixed, multimedia and Internet services to meet the
communication needs of businesses in Singapore," said Mr. Richard Lee, Vice
President for Business Markets, at StarHub.
Pihana's neutral business attracts new service providers to Singapore and
other markets in Asia Pacific as well. U.S.-based QoS Networks, a new
generation network using intelligent, high-performance routing to optimize
content delivery with guaranteed Quality of Service (QoS) -- all in a native
IP environment will be offering its services in the Asia/Pacific region
 through Pihana's facilities.
"We are pleased to be working with Pihana to provide our customers in
Singapore and the Pacific Rim with fast, seamless connections to the
Internet," said Jim Valentine, president and CEO QoS Networks. "QoS Networks
uniquely enable carriers and corporations to receive and transport mission
critical content with full quality of service. In addition, they demand
prioritized bandwidth on demand via an easy-to-use Web interface."
In addition to Pihana's Singapore facility, the company has opened
two IX-enhanced data centers in Honolulu and Los Angeles and will open
five other Asia Pacific facilities in Tokyo, Osaka, Seoul, Hong Kong and
 Sydney by June.
