Discontinues MyPlaceWare and Portal Partner Program

Apr 20, 2001, 01:00 ET from PlaceWare, Inc.

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., April 20 /PRNewswire Interactive News Release/ --
PlaceWare, Inc., a leader in Web conferencing services for Internet-based
business communications, today announced it has taken proactive steps to align
 resources and optimize the organization.
"Our customers choose PlaceWare's world-class services because we deliver
the most reliable and scalable web conferencing services in the industry. To
enhance our ability to singularly focus on PlaceWare's core services, we are
proactively jettisoning two small services outside of our core business,"
stated Barry James Folsom, president and chief executive officer for
PlaceWare. "This increased focus will improve our margins as we continue our
drive to profitability, and allow us to add exciting new capabilities to our
service offerings in the very near future, such as application sharing."
As a result, PlaceWare is discontinuing two services that did not leverage
the core business. PlaceWare's free service MyPlaceWare and the PlaceWare Web
Portal Partner program are being discontinued effective June 30th. Existing
users of these services have already been contacted and provided with upgrade
 offers.
The objectives of the company's alignment are to focus on its two major
service lines: PlaceWare Conference Center 2000 and PlaceWare Meeting Center
2000, to continue to increase margins, and to strengthen its financial
position. PlaceWare reduced the company's full-time employees by
approximately 20 positions, the majority of which constitute administration
and corporate overhead functions related to the discontinued services.
In addition, the company has withdrawn its S-1 Registration due to current
financial market conditions. Should the financial market environment change
the company will reconsider an IPO.
