PPN Generation Station Begins Operation in India; First of Two Indian Plants PSEG Global Will Bring Online This Year

    CHENNAI, India, April 30  /PRNewswire/ -- PSEG Global announced today that
 the PPN Generation Station began commercial operations.  The facility is
 located in the coastal town of Pillai Perumalnallur (PPN) in the Southern
 Indian state of Tamil Nadu.  The 330 MW combined cycle plant is currently
 being run on naphtha and will switch to a mixture of naphtha and natural gas
 as offshore gas wells are completed.  The Tamil Nadu Electricity Board will
 purchase the entire output of the plant under a Power Purchase Agreement.

     An international consortium led by PSEG Global, Marubeni Corporation and
 El Paso, together with the Apollo Group of India are the principal owners of
 the plant.  PSEG Global will oversee operations and maintenance of the plant,
 while Marubeni oversaw the plant's construction.
     PSEG Global also expects to bring online this summer a 220 MW
 naphtha-fired, barge mounted combined-cycle plant in Mangalore, India.
     Other projects completed or announced so far in 2001 by PSEG Global
 include:
 
      --   Commercial operation of a 1000 MW power plant in Guadalupe, Texas
           (USA)
 
      --   Intention to purchase the Saesa group of electric and transmission
           companies in Chile and Argentina
 
      --   Concession Agreement to own, operate and expand the distribution
           system and operate and upgrade accompanying power plants for
           Southern Oman, including construction and operation of a new
           200 MW power plant
 
      --   Construction commencement of a 220MW (electricity) and 500MW
           (thermal) power plant in Chorzow in southern Poland.  It is expected
           to be completed in 2003.
