TORONTO, June 2 /PRNewswire/ -- To build a greener future for Ontario, local government and business have collaborated to create a strong working relationship for the successful completion of the Guelph Organic Waste Processing Facility (OWPF). The process, designed to achieve and measure tangible goals, was facilitated by Toronto's organization development expert, Gavin Robinson of Robinson Organizational Consulting Inc.
In advance of the active construction phase of the OWPF, representatives of eight key parties met for a project partnering session on March 29-30 to build and establish the basis for a strong and successful partnership. The eight key parties included the owner, the City of Guelph and their representative, Conestoga-Rovers & Associates, the design-builders, Maple Reinders Constructors, AECOM and Metric Electric, as well as the companies involved in operations and technology, Biorem, Christiaens Controls B.V. and AIM Environmental.
"Integrating different business groups is a challenge at the best of times. When you throw in the responsibility that local government has to its community, the challenge becomes even more critical," Gavin Robinson of Robinson Organizational Consulting Inc. states. "Getting it right means having open and clear lines of communication, shared goals and ideals and most importantly, high levels of mutual trust and respect. When the appropriate parties can come together to agree on mutual priorities and how best to achieve them, the results can be very exciting."
Paul Kundrat, Civil & Environmental Manager of Maple Reinders Constructors, Ltd., notes, "We are extremely pleased to have chosen Robinson Leadership to facilitate the Project Partnering session. Gavin came through with a unique program that fit our specific needs. The materials were well developed and written, and the exercises kept the session interesting, interactive, and, above all, fun. The information was well received by the people who participated. We are all looking forward to, and confident of, a very successful project!"
Guelph hopes that the new facility, scheduled to begin operating next year, will increase the waste diversion rate by 10% and enable the city to achieve an overall diversion target of 55%.
