The data center is located at the company's Campus II facility on SOM Center Road in Mayfield Village. With e-transactions quickly becoming the model for innovation and brand definition within the company, more and more consumers are choosing to shop, buy and manage policies online every day. The data center provides for more server capacity to accommodate increases in online consumer interactions and transactions. "The data center further secures Progressive's position as technology leader in this industry. Our obligation is to provide consumers with information rich, hassle-free experiences -- whether they are calling for a quote, reporting a claim or servicing an existing policy," said Ray Voelker, chief information officer for the company. Electronic data for millions of Progressive customers is stored on the mainframe computers and servers; these systems feed the data to customer service systems in the company's 24 Hour policy services, direct sales and claims operations. The 80,000 square-foot facility is equipped with state-of- the-art security, backup diesel generators and an uninterrupted power supply, which allows time to switch over to generators if needed. The company broke ground on the project in November 1999; it became fully operational in April 2001. The previous data center, which opened in 1974 at the company's headquarter location on Wilson Mills Road, Mayfield Village, remains operational, serving as Progressive's development site. It will also provide backup to the new data center allowing for system maintenance without interruption. Progressive is the nation's fourth largest auto insurance company. In business since 1937, the company provides all drivers with competitive rates and 24-hour, in-person and online services. The company sells its products over the phone at 1-800-AUTO-PRO(R), online at progressive.com and through more than 30,000 independent agencies throughout the U.S. More information about the company can be found at www.progressive.com .
