Red Hat Goes Live on Oracle(R) Projects With Complete Planning to Delivery Management Solution

Red Hat Deploys Project Suite to Support New Consulting Practice

Mar 18, 2002, 00:00 ET from Oracle Corporation

    REDWOOD SHORES, Calif., March 18 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ --
 ( http://www.oracle.com/tellmemore/?1270135 ) Oracle Corp. (Nasdaq: ORCL),
the world's largest enterprise software company, today announced that Red Hat,
Inc., a premier provider of Linux and open source technologies, selected
Oracle(R) Project Resource Management, a component of the Oracle Projects
Suite, to support its new professional consulting practice. Red Hat chose
Oracle Project Resource Management, over other vendors' solutions, for its
deep business functionality and support of the Linux operating system.
As enterprises increasingly migrate from expensive, proprietary Unix
systems to Linux and other open source solutions, their primary goal is to
reduce information technology (IT) costs and Red Hat created a new consulting
division to help these companies manage the transition process. This practice
created the need for Red Hat to expand its IT infrastructure to serve the
additional business processes, such as project management, accrued from the
 consulting operation.
"We needed to deploy a complete and simple project management system to
support our new consulting team in a short amount of time," said Bob Moss,
executive director of Global IS/IT for Red Hat. "Oracle enabled us to quickly
implement a global, Web-based system. Oracle Project Resource Management
allows us to see into the status of a client project on a daily, weekly or
monthly basis. Because it is seamlessly integrated with other areas of our
business, we have real-time project analysis and provide better customer
service by creating and maintaining a 360-degree view of our customers."
Red Hat is already reaping benefits from Oracle Projects and Oracle
Project Billing. The Oracle Projects family of applications, a component of
Oracle E-Business Suite, is a complete, collaborative solution that spans the
lifecycle of a project from planning to delivery. Oracle Project Resource
Management is designed to optimize the supervision of projects and ensure that
resources are used wisely, that staff are deployed in the most effective way,
and that financial forecasts are accurate.
Another key factor in Red Hat's decision to go with Oracle was the tight,
simple integration of Oracle Project Resource Management with Red Hat's
existing Oracle Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) and Customer Relationship
Management (CRM) systems. A fully integrated part of the Oracle E-Business
Suite, Oracle Project Resource Management leverages the Internet to streamline
operations and cut the costs of owning enterprise software.

     Oracle E-Business Suite
The Oracle E-Business Suite is the industry's first integrated suite of
Internet business applications that automates critical business processes
across both front and back office operations. The Oracle E-Business Suite can
streamline every area of a business -- marketing, sales, service, contracts,
order management, product design, procurement, supply chain, manufacturing,
financials, projects, human resources and professional services automation.
In 2001, Oracle E-Business Suite applications were implemented by more than
 1,100 companies around the world.
Since its initial introduction, Oracle has delivered several releases of
Oracle E-Business Suite enhancements, resulting in a mature, function-rich set
of applications. Oracle E-Business Suite also offers customers unprecedented
choice and flexibility in implementing business applications; its open
architecture and single data model allow applications to be deployed as
individual modules, business flows, or as an entire integrated suite. The
Oracle E-Business Suite is offered as traditional software on CD ROMs or as an
 online service.
