Relativity Technologies Releases RescueWare(R) For ADW

New Product Will Enable Companies to Quickly and Effectively Eliminate

Dependence on Dying Technology Platforms While Preserving Value of Existing

Systems

    RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C., April 26 /PRNewswire/ -- Relativity
Technologies Inc., a leader in legacy modernization solutions, announced today
the release of RescueWare(R) for ADW, a new iteration of its flagship solution
designed specifically to enable companies to migrate from the ADW application
development environment, originally developed by KnowledgeWare Corporation, to
more modern, flexible technology architectures. The new product is part of
Relativity's commitment to provide customers with a low-risk, automated
solution to move off of dying 4-GL languages and Computer-aided Software
Engineering (CASE) tool environments, such as ADW, Seer HPS, PL/1, and
Natural/Adabas, to more standardized, low-maintenance platforms that help ease
the implementation of new business initiatives.
The new RescueWare for ADW solution provides a fast, cost-effective way
for companies that have built mission-critical applications around ADW (now
known as COOL: Enterprise by Computer Associates) to eliminate their
dependencies on this increasingly under-supported platform while reducing
maintenance cycles and improving system performance.
"As companies find business flexibility increasingly important to their
success, they look to leverage their existing systems to meet this new need,"
said Dale Vecchio, Research Director in Application Development at Gartner,
Inc. "However, declining skill sets or MIA vendors can limit business
adaptability and therefore are driving companies to extract themselves from
these aging technologies. Organizations should look for a combination of
tools and process when transitioning systems based on older CASE-based
 technologies."
RescueWare for ADW will help companies eliminate many of the burdens
associated with the ADW environment, including a lack of vendor support and
the associated high maintenance costs, the lack of a future development
strategy for the platform, and a shortage of qualified people who understand
the platform and the code it generates. The product will also help eliminate
the dependency on IBM's OS/2 operating system-the platform on which ADW
operates and which IBM will cease supporting in July of this year.
RescueWare for ADW produces clean COBOL components from ADW design models
and can then transform them into modern languages and platforms such as Java,
C++, Visual Basic, and COOL: Gen.
ADW, which was developed by KnowledgeWare in the late 1980s and sold
approximately 25,000 licenses by 1994, was one of the dominant application
development environments during the heyday of CASE tools. However, many of
these tools have been discontinued or are under-supported by the companies
that created them. RescueWare enables customers who have built important
applications in these environments to transform them to more open,
maintainable COBOL or other common architectures. Relativity Technologies has
successfully achieved this type of migration for companies such as Charles
Schwab & Co., National City Corp., BICS Banque Populaire, and a number of
 other institutions.

     About Relativity Technologies, Inc.
Relativity Technologies is a leading supplier of legacy modernization
solutions. Our solutions and services enable IT organizations to dramatically
cut costs associated with maintaining and operating complex mainframe-based
legacy systems, improve the efficiency and performance of their mission-
critical applications and rapidly integrate key business processes with modern
enterprise and Web-based technologies. Founded in 1997 and based in Research
Triangle Park, North Carolina, the company's flagship product, RescueWare,
analyzes an enterprise's large, monolithic legacy applications and then
identifies, extracts, and transforms vital business processes into components
that can operate in distributed and Web-based computing environments. In
October of 1998, Intel Corporation became an equity shareholder in Relativity
Technologies. For more information about Relativity Technologies, please
